Guest guest
dear Bala, it was such a joy to read your message on 'amma' or 'ammachi' as she is lovingly called. I had the pleasure of visiting 'ammachi' or Ma amritanandamayi in washington dc last summer. In fact, this was the second time i had face to face 'darshan' of ammachi. I had taken an american woman friend for this meeting. She was totally impressed with 'ammachi' and decided to join ammachi's organisation and is now in Kerala staying in amma's ashram and trying to learn all about hinduism. Ammachi has a very reare presence about her. In this second meeting which i attended, there was a group bhajan singing followed by ammachi's own speech. Ammachi speaks in malayalam and her devotee translates the speech in English. There were two interesting things to be noted about amma's upadesa. One is she is very spontaneous and the other is shebhas a great sense of humor. She has the great ability to state compex advaitic truths in layman's language with the help of simple day to day stories . Advaita , for some reason, did not seem so complex any more . although she did not speak in english, she would correct the translator if he omitted to mention some points in her speech. this time ammachi came in devi bhava dressed up like sree sree lalita parameshwer herself- this was quite an experience. awesome! this really made me realize that all women are indeed manifestationsof the divine mother and ammachi knows it and lives the truth and people like me are still struggling to realize this divine truth! there is 'devi' amsham in all of us- we are all sparks of the divine. on a final note, Ammachi believes in both bhakti yoga and karma yoga, she is involved in a lot of social programmes that helps the poor and the downtrodden and her charities have helped buikd hospitals and schools in kerala . about her humanitarian work, ammachi says... " While the food we eat nourishes our bodies it is what we give in charity that nurtures our souls. " on this auspicious friday , please join me in singing one of amma's bhajans..... he amba he amba he amba bol ishvara sata chita ãnanda bol sãmba sadãshiva sãmba sadãshivasãmba sadãshiva bol pãlaka preraka satapati bol ambã ambã jaya jagadambã akhilãndeshvari jaya jagadambã Say " O Mother O Mother O Mother" Say " Lord, Existence, Awareness, Bliss Bsolute" Say " Eternally Auspiscious One" Say "Protector, Inspirer and Lord of all" Hail to Mother, the Universal Mother Hail to Mother of the entire Cosmos! Also, folks! today is my mother birthday. she is 61 years of age. anyday she may leave us. but her 'spirit' will live in people like Ammachi who is 'Mother' to countless millions. Janani Janmabhoomicha swargatapi gariyasi Mother and motherland are dearer than heaven. Ya deevi sarva buutesh matru rupena sansthita namastasyai namastasyai ! namo namaha! to the devi who resides in all beings as the 'Mother' salutations salutations again and again! Om sree matre namaha!
Guest guest
DEAR shru balakrishna, Thank you for the clarification. I was quite aware that you were indeed describing the importance of Saduru in God realization nd your mention of sri ammachi as your guru was incidental to the whole topic. Since I hav high regards for sree ammachi, i thought i will pen a few lines on her. that's all! NOW , you have mentioned great scriptural text TRIPURA RAHASYA. i was introduced to this text by our respected member shri Hrshananda two year ago. Since i am also a devotee of lord dDtatreya, TRipura rahasaya is one of my favorite readings. DEVI HERSELF SAYS IN CHAPTER XX "I m the abstract INtelligence from which COSMOS originates whereon it Fourishes, and wherein it resolves, like the images in a mirror. The ignorant know me as the gross universe, whereas the wise feel me as their own pure being eternally glowing as 'I-I' within. This realisation is possible only in the deep stillness of thought-free consciousness similar to that of the deep sea free from waves. The most earnest of devotees worship me spontaneously and with the greatest sincerity which is due to their love of me. Although they know that I am their own non-dual Self, yet the habit of loving devotion which is deep-rooted in them makes them conceive their own Self as ME and worship ME as the life-current pervading their bodies, senses and mind without which nothing could exist and which forms the sole purport of the holy scriptures. Such is my Transcendental State. "My concrete form is the eternal couple - the Supreme Lord and Energy - always in undivided union and abiding as the eternal consciousness pervading the three phenomenal states of waking, dream and sleep, and reclining on the cot whose four legs are Brahma (the Creator), Vishnu (the Protector), Siva (the Destroyer) and Isvara (Disappearance) and whose surface is Sadasiva (Grace) which is contained in the mansion known as 'fulfilment of purpose' enclosed by the garden of 'Kadamba' trees in the jewel island situated in the wide ocean of nectar surrounding the cosmos and extending beyond. 'Brahma, Vishnu, Siva, Isvara, Sadasiva, Ganesa, Skanda, the gods of the eight quarters, their energies of her gods, celestials, serpents and other superhuman beings all manifestations of myself. However, people do not know ME because their intellect is shrouded in ignorance. So, those of us who are worshipping Sree Lalita Tripurasundari is ndeed worshipping a;; gods/goddeses because she is the source of all. Yes, the importance of Dadguru cannot be emphasized enough. Devi HERSELF appears in human form as guru to remove our ignorance (avifydya) and lead us to braHman. dhyanamulam gururmurtih, pujamulam guruh padam mantramulam gurur vakyam, moksamulam gurur krpa The Guru's form is the basis of meditation. His feet are the root of worship. His words are the source of Mantra and His grace is the root cause of salvation. The human Guru whispers the sacred formula (mantra) in the ear; the divine Guru breathes the spirit into the soul.?(SHRI RAMAKRISHNA) THANK YOU VERY MUCH ONCE AGAIN FOR HIGHLIGHTING the importance of 'guru' For those of you who are interested in downloading the entire text of Tripura Rhasya, here it is... http://www.vinnica.ua/~sss/tripura1.htm Yes,, our playful goddess sree laiita indeed is a divine player ; the whole universe is her playground; this whole creation is as a result of her 'play' ! Om sree Trpurasundariyaii namaha! ps any typos, forgive me - eyesight is still not upto 100% .. but if you can see the vision of the goddess through scriptural eyes (shastrasya chakshuh) who needs material eyes? surdas was a graet devortee who could see his lord through his divine eyes. !
