Namaste,

Perhaps this will be of interest to some people. Maybe

Shri Ganesh can add more on this. The message was originally

sent from the Troy Parashakti temple in Michigan. Members

in this area may please note that there is a community milk

abhishekam at the temple 6:00 PM on Feb 16th. The temple

web page is at http://www.parashakthi-temple.com/

Regards,

Sridhar.

Maasi Makham/ Full Moon on Sun Feb 16.

Maasi Makham: According to Legend, Saint Agastya pleaded with

Lord Shiva to give him a Darshan of the celestial wedding of the

Lord to Goddess Parvathi. Accordingly, the Lord accorded to the

wishes of Saint Agastaya in the month when the star Makham

coincided with the Full Month in the month of Maasi. It is also

said that anyone who remembers and celebrates this day will be

blessed by the Lord and his consort. There are other legends

associated with this day.

namskarams ambaal devotees,

In the Chottanikkara Temples of Kerala (near the city of ernakulam)

where the presiding deity is sree Bhagwati amman , the annual

festival here is celebrated in the month of Kumbha or Aquarius (Feb -

Mar). Maasi Makam, coinciding with the full moon, during this

festival attracts vast crowds. Legend has it that the deity appeared

in front of Vilvamangalam Swamigal a saint associated with this

shrine and with Guruvayur. Vilvamangalam Swamy is said to have

discovered Bhadrakali enshrined in Keezhkaavu.

I invite learned members from this region of kerala to throw more

light on this festival of maasi makam and its importance.

salutations to sree Bhagwati amman!
