Sub : KAANCHI

Innumerable pages of praise cannot extol the spiritual greatness of one of the

greatest place on the earth -- KAANCHI, which the scripture claim as one of the

seven MOOKSHAPURI, others being Kaasi,Ayodhya,Mathura,Maya,AVnthika,Puri.

The credit for this contribution goes my very close Devi upasaka Sri Chandra

Mouli.

WHY KAANCHI IS GREAT.

o This is the only place in the world, where the Para Brahman in Saguna

form spreads Her love and grace on all the living as " Lalitha Maha Tripura

Sundari As Kaamakshi Devi ". There is no other " exclusive " temple for Lalitha

any where in the world. It is not any exaggeration if I say that the Cosmos and

everything composed of it, functions very perfectly because of Her Will from

Kaanchi. Maha Perivaal says that source of power of all Devi temples in the

world is from this Kaamakshi temple.

o Lalitha Sahasranama and lailtha Thrishati was revealed in the Kaanchi

Ksetra in the Upanishad Brahmendra Matam by Lord Maha Vishnu as Haygreeva to

sage Agastiyar. To this effect even to- day there are two lingams known as

Agasthiyar lingam and Hayageeva Lingam ( Maha Vishnu's form in lingam )

o This Upanishad Brahmendra Matam is very very old dating back to

atleast 7000 years as per research conducted by ………. In this place the Rama

Yanthra drawn by sage Narda still exists and the saint Thiyagabrhama has

composed many songs here. One of the all time great composer-- shyma sastri has

composed many songs in praise of Ambaal here.

o This Kaanchi is also known as Vishnu Kaanchi and Shiva Kaanchi because

of the miracle and marvels which had happened to the devotees of Lord Vaikunta

Nathar and lord Kailasa Nathar. Hence the devotees believe this place is

vaikuntam and kailasam as well.

o Out of 108 Divya Khsetras for vaishnavites 18 temples are at Kaanchi

and out of 18. two are inside the Kaamakshi temple --one inside the Sanctum of

kaamakshi and one near the pond of the temple.

o At Kaamakshi temple the shree yantra has been installed by Adi

shankara.

o Ka -- means brahma and anchi- tha means performing the puja -- this is

the place where the Generator of the world -- Brahma has performed the puja to

Ambaal.

o All the EIGHTEEN PURANAAS of the Sanatna dharma refer to Kaanchi as

"Sathyavratha Ksethra."

o Kaanchi is the prithivi Sthala just as Chidambram is AakaSha sthala

-- Agni is Thiruvannamali.

o This is one of the important Shakthi peetam ( Naabi of devi ).As per

Maha Periyava if one imagines the whole world as a human body Kanchi comes

exactly at the centre corresponding to the nabhi.

o This is the place where manmatha was reduced to ashes on wrath of

shiva and saved by Devi and Lalitha's one little power took a form as GOWRI and

lord shiva married gowri.

o The Great Sage Maha Rishi Durvasa well known for his temper which was

cooled by kaamakshi's grace, composed inside the Kaamakshi temple 1500 shlokas

on Kaamakshi Ambaal apart from other sholakas like Shakti Mahimna stotra , Maha

tripura Sundari stotra etc.

o The Mooka Kavi dumb and deaf by birth sang suddenly on a pournima, 500

Shlokas on Kaamakshi known as mooka pancha dashi. It is believed that mooka Kavi

was Maha Kavi Kalidasa in earlier birth.

o The entire Kaanchi is in the shape of Sri Yantra with Kaamakshi as the

central Bindu . all the brahmostavas of any deity in Kaanchi ends finally by

going around the temple of Kaamakshi.

o This is the birth place of innumerable Saints like Thirukachhi Nambi,

Ramanujar , Appaya deekshathar,Veedanta Desikar etc etc

o In the various temples around kaanchi the Alwars and Naayanmars have

composed

many songs in praise of Maha Vishnu and lord shiva.

o This is the place where Adi Sankara attained Kaivalya --leaving the

body - it is believed to be inside the Kaamakshi temple and to day there is a

temple inside Kaamkashi temple for Adi Shankara.

o The Lord Robert Clive who established the British Empire in South

India was infected with Small Pox when he was at Kaanchi. He was extremely

thirsty and his own aide fearing infection refused to fetch him water, when in

search of water near the holy temple of Varada rajar, lord Maha Vishnu appeared

before him and gave hot water and disappeared. Robert clive thought the guy must

be a local King as the person had all the ornaments and was wearing a diamond

crown. Eager to find the king , Back in England he described the person he had

met and several artiste drew the sketch to the description and his search of the

King went in vain. To his fortune one day he could recognise the Lord during the

Garustovam of Lord Varadarajar and then and there presented to the temple

Diamond and gold ornaments which are shown even today to the tourists as a

proof.

o The famous Tamil work " Kanda puranam " was composed in front of the

Lord Subramanya in Kanar kootam at Kaanchi. It is believed lord Subramanya

himself dictated the first verse to Kachyapa Shivachariyar.

o When Vedanta Desika composed Sri Sthuthi at Kaanchi -- Mahalaksmi

pleased, poured her grace in form GOLD COINS and there are only two other

similar instances said to have happened when Adi Shankara sang Kanaka dhara

stotra at Kaaladi and Vidyaranyar at Srigeri.

o This is also the place of birth of the well known Jeevan Muktha in the

recent past - Seshadri Swamigal who identified Bagawaan Ramana.

o This is the pace where Adi Shankara did “ Sarvagnya Peeta rohanam”

o Last but not the least Lalitha Parameswari in human form re

established the Santana Dharma as applicable to the Twenty first Century in the

form of Maha Perivaal -- H.H. Sri Sri Sri CHANDRASEKHARA SARASWATHI who knew

more than 18 languages and had millions of disciples from a poor man to Kings of

several countries and many belonged to several western disciples. It is our good

fortune that many of us had the opportunity of having had the blessings of Maha

Perivaal.

To be concluded.

Devi is one; and accoriding to many he does not reside in any temple but

in the hearts of the temple goers. The only thing that powers temples is

the Bhakthas love for mother. Looking at this with an analytical POV the

yogini tantra makes a stronger link between the forms of Kamakshi and

Kali (as well as Tara) then Sundari.

But is this not the aspiration of all devi Bhaktas wether they

worship the form of Lalita Ma or Durga, Vaishanavi isn't this

the ultimate goal?

>But the real question is whether Have we have truly realized or

>whether we are mature enough for realization or Whether we are

>honest enough to admit that we are far from realization. Let us

>put it the other way - Do we have the True Bhaktha's love for

>mother or whether we are attempting to be a Bhaktha of mother.

The imitation or even the mere (sincere) attempt to do so wins

the grace of mother...I know from personal experience.

>In order to reach this state of "Bhaktha" all the rites,

>rituals including going to temple becomes extremely important

>and necessary - further to be followed very strictly. Therefore

>for the masses and majority Devi or other deity resides only in

>the temple (not in the hearts) as witnessed by the crowds in

>Tirupathi or any temple of the Ishta or kula daiva. -- When the

>person first experiences GOD when his prayers get answered.

I would think not (I don't intend to contradict you), however

even if you do rituals the idea is you are aware of the symbolic

meaning and the esoteric meaning, you do it literally so that

you basically come to the realisation of it. I mean take the

recitation of LS why would the all loving mother want us to

recite this over and over again, this is my personally

interpretation that the more we read and study such texts the

more we understand the many facets of the Divine one and we

then can establish a link with her by relating to even on of

those names via which we attain the divine mother. I went to

Tirupati I saw a rock statue then I went to my mum and I saw

the true form of mother. Again the we associate the Devi as

our mother she is our creator, benefactor and it is her lap

we want to sleep the eternal sleep on, is this not so with the

real mother? Matro devo bhava this vedic statement says it all.

Kularnava tantra, geeta and all these texts clearly state don't

look at other means see the connection between you and God and

aspire to strengthen it the only way that is done is Bhakthi

which is strongely affected by karma. I don't think going to

temples doing rajabhishek would so much, the same effect I know

many get (I tried myself works wonders) from tulasi and water

with the right esoteric mantras even they aren't necessary,

better yet feed kanyas help widows worship them.

Lalita mother is just one aspect of the Divine Goddess who

is bluntly put is Shakthi, she resides in one's wife, sister,

daughter, mother, grandmother, neighbour, teacher all have

this essence they indeed have the true essence by picturing

this and doing manasa puja one attains all this. There is no

need of a guru, mantra, tantra, yantra or whatever when one

simply surrenders that the will of the goddess, where all one's

good deeds and bad deeds are given to her. This is where the

devotee basically says "Devi I sincerely aspire to reach you,

I try to see you in everyone and interact people in that manner

make me a better person so that I can reach you".

There is always a need of that sincere modivation once that is

found why go to temples, why do rituals? I am not condemning

this but all I am trying to do is point out that it is a

frustrating attempt unless you have the right psyche I personally

see it as very petty if once encapsulates the divine beauty in

a piece of rock or metal fashioned by man. The idea is to do

that inside with once's heart.

All shastras proclaim this method as the highest and the

highest of all it need Bhakthi and through which comes

knowledge when these two wheels are combined the chariot of

Vignyana is formed where the devata is the sarathi.
