Guest guest
Namskaram, I have a about 10 " (Inches) the size, size of average hand. I have had this statue for about 10 years. I usually do puja on fridays by chanting Lalitha Sahasra Namam. I was told by some people that I should not worship to statue and should be worshipping to a photo. Learned members, Please let me know what should I do. Thanks. Radhika
Guest guest
namaste Radhikaji You should consult an acharya or a family teacher on these matters. The typical rule (I have heard) if the size of the vigraham is less than the size of the thumb, then it does not require any special procedure. It is better to clarify these things with an AchArya. Few years ago I bought few vigrahams in a shop, but they were small Even then since I could not do any justice in puuja etc, I gave them to Sri Sankara Vijayendra Saraswati SwamigaL of kAnchi maTha. Matha gladly took it away from me. But I did not feel like giving away the shaalagrama (which was actually bought by my brother from a nepali in Puttabarthi and it was given to me). Technically you should not buy these things. It should be obtained either from family tradition or from one's guru. Hence, I gave it to the acharya and requested him to bless it so that I can worship. He inspected it and said you can worship and clarified some of my questions. My brother asked me later, whether it is really a shalagrama. I told him it does not matter, as one's teacher you can worship it, then that question does not arise. In simple words, you should contact an Acharya or a qualified priest (in person) for these matters. Beyond a point internet suggestions will not work. Even if you get a recipe from internet, you will still have to cook it with real materials to eat it. It is more so with spiritual matters. Referring to a vigraha as a statue does not seem right to me. May be it is just my bias. In any case, good wishes. My 2c.
