The Divine Mother replies as under to a question raised by Brahma as to whether

She was Male or Female ( From Devi Bhagavata )

 

 

 

That male and female (myself) are ever the same. There is no difference between

Him and me. The male is what I am and I am what male is. Difference arises only

from ignorance. He who is intelligent and free from births can know our subtle

difference. There is no doubt about this. The one without the second, the

Brahman becomes dual at the time of creation – as a single face becomes and

appears as dual as in a mirror by virtue of condition, even so our images are

many owing to the differences of minds because of maya. For the purposes of

creation the differences arises at the time of creation. It is the only

difference between the seen and unseen. At the time of dissolution I am neither

male nor femalew nor neuter.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

She is maya – as a part of her nature. She is Avidya because she binds. She is

Mahamaya because she dominates Maya. She is SRI VIDYA as she holds the torch to

the path of final return. She is also the Maha Vidya in whose bosom the wayworn

pilgrim finds the total rest.

 

 

 

 

 

She is in all things – she is the cause of bondage as well as liberation.—she is

in all things and all things are in her. She is consciousness – she is

intelligence – she is sleep – she is wakefulness and dream – she is hunger and

thirst – she is shadow and substance – she is potent and impotent – she is mercy

and compassion – she is beauty and ugliness – she is peace and war – she is

truth and falsehood – she is good and evil – she is error and rectitude – she is

illusion and reality – she is ignorance and reality – she is knowledge and bliss

– she is cosmos and beyond it.

 

 

 

The HUMAN EGO has the privilege to choose either of these forces to work out ITS

DESTINY.
