Om Amrtesvaryai Namah!!

Namaste!

does anyone on this list know anything about Goddess Jyothi?

Are there sacred texts devoted to Her (other than the Jyotish books)?

as students of the Sri Jyotir Vidya, we have come to see how the

Jyotir Vidya is really one of the Divine Mother's manifestations

in the form of Light, and in the form of the wisdom which seeks to

understand and employ that light for the betterment of all.

Seeing the Jyotir Vidya as a Maha Devi, just as Kali, Tara, Bhairavi

and the other MahaVidyas can be seen, encourages one to approach Her

as our Mother, rather than a dry bookly learning.

we recently learned from a Murugan bhakti site, that Jyothi Devi was

born from a spark of fire, emitted from the brow of Devi Parvathi at

the same time as Lord Siva emitted six sparks of fire from His brow,

to create His darling son Lord Skanda, Who was created from the

Lord's Tejas, his Power accumulated during years of sadhana on the

Holy Mountain, after his beloved Sati had perished in Her father's

sacrificial fires.

it had been predicted that the Demon Taraka would be the master of

the three worlds until a son should be born to Lord Siva and His

Devi, to release the world from the demon's thrall...Thus Lord Skanda

(Murugan) and His Lovely sister Jyothi were created at the same time.

Jyothi Devi apparently was created in the form of light, which took

the form of the Vel in Lord Murugan's hands...thus as we understand

it, Jyothi Devi is Lord Murugan's foremost helper in subjugating the

Demons which His Father has sent Him destroy.

Since that time Jyothi Devi has been worshipped in that form of the

Vel inseparable from Lord Skanda, in a Nirguna "form".

Apparently, now, She is wishing to be addressed in the Saguna form,

and has in America been installed in several temples in Her own

sanctum...

We had learned from this same Murugan Bhakti site that Mother

Jyothi's birthday commemoration is when the Moon is occupying

Visakham nakshatra in the month of May...which was YESTERDAY...May

15th 2003...not only that we are told that Mother particularly likes

to be worshipped on the FULL MOON NIGHTS...and yesterday was a FULL

MOON in Visakham...Not only that, but there was an eclipse in our

country (Western Canada) beginning about 7:15 PM just after Full

MoonRise...just as we were preparing the puja articles for our

Birthday Puja to Goddess Jyothi.

as Jyotish students, we felt that it had been MOST auspicious that

Mother Jyothi had revealed Herself in a saguna form to us just last

week, through this Murugan Bhakti site, especially that Her Birthday

was just coming up yesterday...and that it was the full moon....this

all seems to be just too much coincidence...so we felt compelled to

observe Mother Jyothi's Birthday...and today when we learned that

there had been an eclipse throughout most of the puja, which eclipse

started just nicely at the hour of Rahu....very strange....too much

like Divine Mother's dances...obvious, yet subtle

Because of our interest in Divine Mother in All of Her forms, and

because of our abiding interest in the Jyotir Vidya...Jyotish, we are

most interested to learn if there is anyone out there on the list,

who may be knowledgeable in Jyothi Devi's ways...

We ask this in the Name of Our Guru, Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi!

Thanks so much for reading all this...

In the Divine Mother's Love

and in Her Service

as ever,

visvanathan and easwari

Om Amrtesvaryai Namah!
