Guest guest
Please help me with the Gayathri sloka.. can a female chant Gayathri sloka everyday to attain Her grace.? Please let me know which verse I can say everyday for Her proctection of my family. kind regards Anuradha Dear Devotee A female can definitely recite Gayathri SLOKA and not MANTHRA as per our scriptures as gayatri contans in itself the spirit and energy of all VEDIC MANTRAS. only by intense repition of gayathri one would be able to master all vedic mantras. those who have been compelled by vedas to do gayatri mantra shall do it everyday without fail. the sastras say the effect of this is benefic not only to the individual but also to the society as a whole. there is NO DEVI MANTRA GREATER THAN GAYATRI mantra. Even the Shodashi mantra would not be effective to a person who is supposed to do gayatri and while failing to do it takes interest on other Devi Mantras. IN SHORT a female NEED NOT recite gayathri mantra . however the gayatri Sloka which has the SAME MEANING AS GAYATRI MANTRA CAN BE CHANTED BY ALL INCLUDING FEMALES. As an additional related information , i would like to give some more information on the meaning of the the " YAGNO PAVEETAM " (SACRED THREAD ) which one gets at the time of getting gayatri mantra. one set of sacred thread contains three threads tied as a knot. that knot is called the Brahmma Grandhi ( the Knot of Brahman ). a brahmachari ( batchelor ) wears one set -- a married person wears two sets -- the additional set is worn on behalf of the wife. the third set is optional one which is a subtitute for the uttareeyam --( a cloth which should be worn on the body ) What IS THE PHILOSOPY BEHIND THESE THREE THREADS. Every human being is born with raga and Dwesha ( likes-- Dislikes) which makes the individual to use the power of mind, power of speech, and the use of bodily powers as per his likes and dislikes which would be contrary to sastras. The three threads represent the MIND -- BODY -- SPEECH . on getting this holy thread the body mind and speech which were so far acting as per likes and dislikes are tied in the KNOT OF THE BRAHMAN and from that day with the constant contemplation of the GAYATRI MANTRA -- the devotee gets the power of getting over the evil forces of likes and dislikes. this Knot is also known as the KNOT OF VEDAS and this knot is very strong one both physically as well as by implication of the meaning. IN short the three threads Constitute -- DO NOT THINK -- DO NOT SPEAK -- DO NOT ACT --- CONTRARY TO THE VEDAS AND SASTRAS and Vedas -- sastras are THE BACK BONE OF OUR SANTANA DHARMA. By the hypnotic power of gayatri it liberates the person from worldly existence and realising the goal of human birth. let us all pray to gayathri devi that she will have mercy upon us at a time where there is a dilution of vedic values -- so that the fire of gayathri mantra is never extinguished in us and that it will keep burning brighter and brighter. ganapathy = = = Vijaya Sridhar Seshagiri <s_seshagiri wrote: My name is Anuradha Gopinath....married ...28yrs and a mother of a 2year old son..Adithya. I am not very well versed in Her innumberable slokas that talk about Her benevlonace and Almighty grace and strength. Guest guest
namaste Even the 1st para in my reply is technically correct. I should I have avoided the second paragraph. It is the self-realized sages know what is dharma and what is not. I agree with Jesse Arana, and the actions of such sages cannot be questioned. Hence, I stand corrected and I withdraw my comment in the second paragraph. My apologies. With respects, Ravi , "M. S.
