Salutations to Her, whose lotus feet's qualities are

superior even to the(good qualities of)pArijAta flowers.

Dictionary-pArijAta- the coral tree , Erythrina Indica

(losing its leaves in June and then covered with large

crimson flowers).

corrections/comments welcome.

paarijaata guNa - 'Qualities of a parijaata flower', Qualities like

tenderness and color can be compared to the worldly paarijaata

flower (coral jasmine). There is a mythical paarijaata found in the

deva loka. It is a wish granting flower, similar to kalpaka

vR^ikSha or kaamadhenu. It is suppose to have emerged when devas and

asuras churned the milky ocean. In the Bhagavata mahapurana , Shuka

says,

tato.abhavatpArijAtaH suralokavibhUShaNam

pUrayatyarthino yo.arthaiH shashvadbhuvi yathA bhavAn (08.08.007)

'Then came the parijata, that decorates the celestial planets. O

King, as you fulfill the desires of everyone on this planet, the

parijata fulfills the desires of everyone (in the Deva loka).'

Paarijaata flower grants what ever one wishes, both good and evil.

With the way normal human being tendencies swing, it might not be

that good a possession.

There is a lotus flower that excels the wish granting qualities of

paarijaata. It only fulfils the noble desires of the person

possessing it and makes them seek noble things alone. That lotus is

Lalita's padaabjam.

Once a bee approaches the celestial parijaata tree, it does not seek

another shelter. Similarly, when we have approached Your lotus feet

and taken shelter of them, what further benediction may we ask of

You?

Shrih Aravind,

It is very uplifting to read the kalyana guns of sree Lalithambikal.

Sree Lalthambika is indeed the 'kalpa-vriksha' or the wish-fulfilling

tree. I really liked the 2nd sloka very much.

is Parijaata tree same as 'pavazhamalli' - when i was in delhi, my

father had a tree in his garden called 'Raat ki Rani' ( or night

queen ) - ths flowers on thhis tree were almost like jasmine (white)

and with a great fragrance... but they bloomed only at night... but

the oral jasmine you describe seem to be more like the 'gulmohar'

tree whose flowers are coral red on a green stalk and fragrant as

well? and is 'parijaata' the same tree which was the bone of

contention between Rukmani and Satyabhama , the consorts of Lord

Krishna?

Shrih aravind,

in the second sloka, you state that once we have taken shelter at the

lotus feet (pada-aravindam, charanambujan or oada=kamalam) of Sree

lalithambika, we do not need any other benediction?

Shri Muthuswmy dikshitir highlights this truth nicely in one of his

navarana krithis... on Kamalambikal...

THE SONG

PALLAVI

SRI KAMALA AMBIKAYA - KADAKSHI THOHAM

SACHIDANANDHA PARIPOORNA BRAMASMI ......

respected members, please forgive the 'typos' .... i have 'cataract'

in both eyes...

i typed guns instead of gunas...

i typed oral instead of coral

i typed charanambujan instead of charanambujam

i typed oada= kamalam instead of pada kamalam

please forgive me.

in this kriti, dikishitir says charanagati at ambaal's feet takes

away all the sorrows of the devotee.

hari aum!

Satish mentioned 'Erythrina indica' as Paarijaata in his initial

post. Google gave me ' Nyctanthes arbortristis' as Paarijaata.

I think what we call as paarijaata ('Pavazamalli' in tamil) is

what 'Nyctanthes arbortristis' is. 'Erythrina indica' is Mandaara

vR^iksha, which is also another fragrant flower tree.
