'Parijaatha' is one of the celestial flowers. It is a common

practice to have mundane representations of such items.

The fragrance of the paarijaatha would dispell all forms of

diseases wherever it reaches.

In the varalaaRu of AruNagiri naathar, there is an episode

of a contest between AruNagiri and Sambandhaandaan.

AruNagiri wins that competition by making Thiru Murugan

appear in a pillar in the temple at ThiruvaNNaamalai.

The brilliant light of His appearance blinded the king,

Praputa DEva Raayan.

He was enticed by Sambandhaandaan to tell AruNagiri

to fetch the Paarijaatha malar from Paradise. This would restore

the sight of the king.

AruNagiri performed the 'kuudu vittu kuudu paaydhal' -

'para kaaya pravEsam' - siddhi and took the form of a parrot.

Thus he went to the celestial regions and brought the

Paarijaatham.

In the meanwhile, Sambandhaandaan serached and destroyed

AruNagiri's body.

While AruNagiri was approaching ThiruvaNNaamalai, the

fragrance reached the place. The king suddenly regained his sight

and could see.

AruNagiri perched upon the tower of the temple and dropped

the celestial flower.

Then he disclosed about the deed of Sambandhaandaan and

thereafter flew to the hand of ThiruMurugan as he sang the

'Kandhar Anubhuuthi'.
