Guest guest
Namaskarams! Would any of the revered members throw some light on "Puracharanam" I understand it as a Japa Sadhana of the Moola Mantras of various Ishta Devatas like Ganapathi, Bala,Chandi etc.. Would be great if you could clarify on: 1. The concept 2. Rules and Regulations for performing the task 3.Any time frame within which it has to be performed. Guest guest
Dear devotees, Shri ganapathy writes .... " Specific months and special places Where if purascharanam is done would yield quick results.( i vaguely remember as River banks of holy rivers, near temples on mountains etc ). Great saints like Saint Thyagaraja have done purascharanam in this fashion as per information from my Guruji." This is true. Here , i would like to share with you all the story of a great maharastrian saint Shri Ramadas, a contemporary of Saint TukARAM . Saint Ramadas was a great devotee of Hanuman and Lord Rama. He had Darshan of Lord Rama even when he was a boy. Lord Rama Himself initiated him. saint Ramdas did Purascharana of the Rama Mantra of thirteen letters *Sri Ram Jaya Ram Jaya Jaya Ram* thirteen lakhs of times at Tafali, near Nasik, on the banks of the Godavari. After the Purascharana was over, once again Ramdas had Darshan of Lord Rama. so, from this account, we know that great saints of yesteryears performed such 'purascharana' on the banks of holy rivers! so time and place are important in the performance of 'purascharana' Other important features are 1) the measurements and decoration of the mandapa, or pandal, of the altar 2)There are certain rules as to food both prior to, and during, purascharana . The sadhaka should eat havishyanna, or alternately boiled milk (kshira), fruits, or vegetables,. Such food should be obtained as 'alms' Avoid all food THAT arouse calculated to influence the passions. Observance of 'brahmacharya' is also important. Three days before puja there is worship of Ganesha and Kshetra-pala, Lord of the Place. Pancha-gavya, or the five products of the cow, are alsoeaten. The Sun, Moon, and Devas are invoked. Then follows the sangkalpa. The ghata, or kalasa (jar), is then placed into which the Devi is to be invoked. A mandala, or figure of a particular design, is marked on the ground, and on it the ghata is placed. Then the five or nine gems are placed on the kalasa, which is painted with red and covered with leaves. The ritual then prescribes for the tying of the crown lock ( shikha), the posture (asana) of the sadhaka; japa nyasa (q.v.), and the mantra ritual or process. Devotees, as you will notice these are all elaborate rituals and therefore in this kali-yuga when householders are busy doing their swa-dharma , it is not easy to foloow all these rules and regulations as laid down by scriptures. but then what is the alternative ? do devi upasana as and when possible ! Devi is stotra priya! recite sree lalita sahasaranama! om sree gurave namaha! om sree mahatripurasundarayaii namaha! with regards,
