Guest guest
Hariom, I was reading the posts on Purascharana and thought will through in my cents. The shastras prescribe three types of purascharana: 1. The regular pre ordained mantra japa with dashamsha homa, tarpana, marjana and brahmana bhojana. 2. Aaudayastamana japa, which means one does sankalpa and does japa 24 hours from sunrise till the sunrise of the following day without a break. The japa done in the intervening period is taken as a base for calculating dashamsha homa etc. 3. Grahana Kaala Purascharana, where japa is done during an eclipse (sachela snanam krutva sakrudeva japamacharet) and the japa done during the existence of the grahana is taken as the base for homa etc. For all tantrika mantras (I really dont want to go into the details as to whether srividya is vaidik or tantrik) a kurma chakra has to be drawn with deepa sthapana as also other invocations of Ganapathi, kshetra pala etc. The shastras make an exception to this rule when japa is done on a mountain or river bank and such other designated and notified areas. The ahara niyamas do apply and are as stipulated by the shastras (havishyanna bhojana). Havishyanna is not sacrificial rice, but all those fit for sacrifice according to Padma Purana. The other niyamas have been extolled by the members of this learned group. GP SBC DSL - Now only $29.95 per month! http://sbc.
