Guest guest
Dear Sir, I agree with you on the fact that the two incidents are quite disillusioning. However the time at which it dates back is debatable. I don't think sri ratnakheta dikshitar was with the chola kings. From what i have been told, he was in the maratha time . Chola dynasty was till approx 12th century a.d. whereas this incident dates back to approximately 1553 A.D. I have a book on Sri Appaya dikshitar which clearly states so. Sri ratnakheta dikshitar was awarded the title by the ruler then (whose identity is debatable)as "ratnakheta". "kheta" in sanskrit can be said as "khe atanti iti kheta" i.e. the one with high flown ideas or in true translation as the one who occupies the sky (Khe). I am proud to be a decendant of this great man. Shrinivas khet SBC DSL - Now only $29.95 per month! http://sbc.
Guest guest
I read with great interest on the topics of Sri Appayya Dikshathar. My Father has a family chart tracing the roots of Sri Appayya Dikshathar, starting from Sri Appayya Dikshatar's Father, Sri Appayya Dikshithar, his brother till the descendants born in early 1960's.which includes my brother and a cousin. It is interesting to note that Swami Sivananda is one among the great descendant's of Sri Appayya Dikshithar. It is said that Maha Vishnu took the' Havir Bagam' from the Homam Sri Appayya Dikshithar did, and as such, we do not have Maha Vishnu Ilai when we do the Srartham in my Father's house. Guest guest
Dear Sri Srinivas Khet, It was nice that you are descendent of mahaan, Sri Ratnaketa Dikshitha. What further info I know about him is 1. His gothra is Viswamithra 2. He had lived in places like Thooppil near Kancheepuram, Sathyamangalam (near Coimbatore?) and of course Thanjavur Dist. 3. He was a Bahu Yaji as well as great Ambal Upasaka. 4. He also had 3 sons, famous ones being Sri Kesava Dikshithar and Sri Raja Choodamani Dikshithar, latter having been minister in the Tanjor Maratta Raja sabha. These two sons' granthas are available in Saraswathi Mahal, I learnt. 5. My elders used to say, we too are descendents (smartha vadama by brahmin sect), and we have an adishtanam of Sri Ramachandra Dikshithar (Sri Chandrikananda Natha) at Puliyur (my native)near Nagapattinam - about 165 year old, with a lot of disciples spread around. He is my g.father's great g.father. 6. My g.mother used recite a sloka on Ratnaketa Dikshithar "vipaccithama paccithey vivathake nalaccithe...etc...Ratnaketa Dikshite"(I forgot), with an episode that at the dawn some great pandit came to the village for a tharka with him. On hearing this sloka recited by Ratnaketa's wife while cleaning the house entrance in the morning and seeing the panditya of the woman folk, he fled the scene. 7. These all were recalled last year when the learned Srividya upaasaka (Kumbakonam Sri Dinakara sarma) asked me about lineage of Chandrikanantha Natha and how he got into Sri Vidya upaasana. We understood from other upaasakas and yajwas that Ratnaketa Dikshitha practised both Agni upaasana and Ambaal upaasana at that time.
