Guest guest
Sri Rama Jayam Namaskarams to all. I have some questions regarding the duties of a Sri Upasaka. 1. I had heard that the anushtanams for a Sri Upasaka is very strict and he has to be very strict regarding his day to day activities including consumption of food and visiting other people's houses. 2. An upasaka should not allow a girl child to be seated on his lap. 3. Is it also true that an upasaka should not have his own father as his Sri Vidhya Guru? 4. An upasaka can do namaskarams only after proper discrimination. 5. The final rites after a Sri Upasaka passes away are special in the way, they differ a lot from those that are held for ordinary people. Could the learned members of this group please answer these questions? Regards, Sudarshan Iyer SMS using the Messenger;Download latest version. Guest guest
Dear devotees, A learned member has asked this question .... An upasaka should not allow a girl child to be seated on his lap. In the distant past, young girls used to be married off at a very young age... even before they attained 'puberty' ... now, in 'tamil' marriage ceremonies. the young girl is seated on her father's lap during 'kannika-dhanam' (giving away of the bride)... now, many of these fathers were also sri vidya upasakas and how could they follow this custom if there is a taboo against seating girl children on the lap! in fact, this custom is being followed even to this day only difference being now the girls are older! the point is who makes these rules ? are they really part of sree vidya upasana? all young girls are to be worshipped as swaroopa of ! so , i am trying to understand what is wrong with seating young girls on the lap? it is an expression of vatsalya bhava, is it not? AUM SREE KANYA-KUMARAIYAII NAMAHA!
Guest guest
Dear Devotees, The reason for not seating girl child on the lap (rather it should be left lap ) could be due to the fact that left lap i.e., edadu thodai belongs to swa shakthi. That's why all the deities have their shakti on their left as in the case of vallabha ganapathi . ramakrishnan
