Yes, aahara niyama and other strict mind regulatory exercises have to be followed. However, present day situations may not let many follow the rule. The solution to srividya upasakas travelling frequently and in such other jobs as far as aahara niyama is concerned is to restrict intake of food from external entities to a minimum and when it is absolutely necessary (Its a relative concept. Lalitopakhyana says that whenever a person does parishechana or sprinkling of food with gayathri or Srividya repeated 3 times it becomes pure due to the mantra. All upasakas unable to follow the rule strictly at certain times following circumstances and situations can adopt this rule and do more japa on such days. > > 2. Hence no rule exists, if anyone else has a contrary opinion pls write so. > 3. Is it also true that an upasaka should not have > his own father as his Sri Vidhya Guru? > No. Although certain texts have provisions stating that wife should not be initiated by husband and similar others, there is no rule taht father should not initiate into srividya. On the contrary, father is conssidered as guru as he gives brahmopadesha or gayathri, therefore it is perfectly normal to be initiated by one's father and is keeping with tradition. > 4. An upasaka can do namaskarams only after proper > discrimination. > Yes. This rule applies. Since the cardinal principle a srividyopasaka seeks to achieve is: "Jnana jnatru jneyaanam abhedya bhaavanam srichakra poojanam" Bhavanopanishat. and Also in Navavarna pooja ambaal is invoked after pooja back into one's heart "Bhadvaa tvaam khechari mudraa... Hrrchakra tishta me nityam lalite parameshwari" So ambaal is virtually residing in every srividyopasaka. Here it is not about srividya, the concept of advaitha and aham brahmasmi is extremely pronounced in the paaduka mantras which is delved upon. One may argue that if it is aham brahmasmi and one sees the whole world as brahman then why discriminate? Well the answer to that would be the mantra bhaaga aavahana of ambaal in ones heart after navavarna pooja .. Karma khanda regulates such practises on grounds of vasana and aachara. Hence, a person has to discriminate before doing namaskara. > 5. However, for dvijaas since vaidika mantras are used it is not required. For non-dvijas where samskara is mantra varjya this needs to be used. > > Could the learned members of this group please > answer these questions? > > Regards, > > Sudarshan Iyer > > > > SMS using the Messenger;Download latest > version. > > [Non-text portions of this message have been > removed] > > > SBC DSL - Now only $29.95 per month! http://sbc. I have some questions regarding the duties of a Sri Upasaka. 1. I had heard that the anushtanams for a Sri Upasaka is very strict and he has to be very strict regarding his day to day activities including consumption of food and visiting other people's houses. 2. An upasaka should not allow a girl child to be seated on his lap. 3. Is it also true that an upasaka should not have his own father as his Sri Vidhya Guru? 4. An upasaka can do namaskarams only after proper discrimination. 5. The final rites after a Sri Upasaka passes away are special in the way, they differ a lot from those that are held for ordinary people. Could the learned members of this group please answer these questions? Regards, Sudarshan Iyer
