Guest guest
The general convention is a) Left lap is the seat of one's wife b) Right lap is the seat of someone in daughter's position. It could be daughter or daughter-in-law. There is an incident in mahaabhaarata illustrating it*. This is a general convention and has nothing to do with srividyopaasana. Even in the context of srividya, there is a legend that when bhaaskaraaya was challenged to tell the names of all 64 crore yogini names, he started doing that behind a screen and ambaaL helped him (answering his prayer) in the form of a small girl, sat on his right lap and told the names of the yogini-s to him. That's why all the deities have their shakti > on their left as in the case of vallabha ganapathi . > ramakrishnan > > >
