Can Sri Ganapathy or someone else point me to texts (if possible verses)

which talk about these rules? I would like to create few FAQs on vigraha

aaradhana and it is better to support the views presented with scriptural

texts (shruti, smrti, puraNa-s, aagama-s, etc.)

Specifically the line in the quote text, "must be made of ..." indicating

pancha-loha is in question as many households I have seen have vigraha-s

made in just silver alone. And regarding the rules on the size, what I have

heard is that it should be less than the size of one's angushhTa (or thumb)

(angushhTa maatra, probably based on the shruti reference to it) and not

palm-size (they are typically quite close).

I am aware of this navAxarI initiation requirement for chanting durga

saptashati, as one of my friends was instructed so by sringeri aacharya. Can

someone point me to the exact text which outlines this requirement. Also, I

was told that if one is initiated to shriividya, then the requirement of

navaxarI is waived. Again, I would like know the source of the these

regulations.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Ravi
