Dear Devotees of ambaa:

namaH shivAbhyAm

I posted this first verse quite sometime ago. I am planning to restart this

series. Here is the first verse again and you can read this in a standard

roman transliteration at See http://ambaa.org/download/SriLalita1000.pdf .

I have enclosed all the sanskrit words in and the sign ":" is used to

capitalize the letter following it. This is done automatically by a script

and converted to LaTeX format.

Thank you.

Ravi

:kathitaM lalitaadevyaaH charitaM paramaadbhutam.h 1 >

Free Translation:

-----------------

O Lord <:hayagriiva>, the horse--faced one! you are endowed with great

wisdom and you are a master of all scriptures! from you I have heard

the most wonderful history of <:shrii :lalitaa :devii.>

Additional Notes:

-----------------

* <:ashvaanana> means ``Horse-Faced''. <:shriimad :devii

:bhaagavataM> explains how Lord <:naaraayaNa> became the horse--faced

<:hayagriiva.>

* Lord <:hayagriiva> is well known in all traditions as the master

of all knowledge. For instance, refer to the line of <:vedaanta

:deshika> ``<aadhaaraM sarva vidyaanaaM shrii hayagriivamupaasmahe.''>

* The name <:lalitaa> has several meanings. According to <:shrii

:lalitaa :trishatii> it means ``She is the most beautiful one'' --

``<lalitaM trishhu sundaraM -- iti vachaanaat atyantasaundaryavatii iti

arthaH.''>

* The story or history of <:shrii :lalitaa :devii> is stated as

the most wonderful one as there is none like that stated before. This

is a subjective praise.
