Now let us examine this statement -- if the upasana starts with the mind and ends with the mind what could happen without the grace of Devi. The mind always clings to the known because it is constantly seeking security and certainty. the mind's very nature is fixed in the known, in time and how can such a mind whose very foundation is based on the past on time experience the TIMELESS. The unknown can come into being only when the known is understood, dissolved and put aside. For this one needs the grace of Devi -- because the moment you have an experience of anything the mind translates it into terms of the known and reduces it to the past. therefore such knowledge itself is an hindrance. Conditioning of the conscious mind as per the past experiences or to a thing known is a problem by itself because that conscousness is always of the past and never of the present, though you may think so.If you watch closely the consciousness functions between the past and the future and never the present. the present is merely a passage of the past to the future. This condition is at variance as per the declaration of our scriptures that says that " you are ALWAYS ABSOLUTE , BLISS and CONSCIOUSNESS " This mental condition again can not be over come through analysis because the moment you are the analyser that very analyser himself is part of the background and is of least significance because you would make assertions and denials and implies in its very essence the background in different forms. So the mind must be NEW -- uncontaminated by the past to discover DEVI or the TRUTH. Here the DEVI showers Her grace on the aspirant by removing this limitation of mind and Reveals Herself in the SELF. That is why such spititual experiences are beyond words that can express it -- as the moment you try to express it you are only working at the mind level. So when one starts the upasana , if he tries to logically argue and find fault with the limitation of mind and the procees of upasana itself, he would reach no where and that is where ' FAITH " plays an important role. In Devi sapthasathi the mantra says ( 5th chapter ) -- " Salutations to Her who abides in all beings in the form of faith ". -- Ya devi sarva butheshu Shraddha rupena samsthitha. When you commence the upasana with an unshakable faith with the mind -- that would lead you to the perception of the REAL SELF -- Rishies who addresses it as " DEVI AS ONE WHO RESIDES in them AS INTELLIGENCE IN THE HEART -- The DM says SARVASYA BHUDDHI RUPENA JANASYA HRDI SAMSTHITHE ". By Devi's grace alone this would happen and NOT due to efforts of the MIND.
