Namaste

Please refer slokas 76,77,78 of soundaryalahari. The free translation of

it is

76. "Oh daughter of the mountain! with a body devoured by the series of

flames of the fury of Hara, Cupid became immersed in the deep pool of your

navel. A tendril of smoke arose from it. Oh Mother! people think of it

as your line of hair above the navel(according to poetic convention, high

class ladies are supposed to have this)."

77. Oh Sivaa! Oh Mother! this something which is shaped like a very

small wave of the river Kalindi, in your lean waist, which manifests

(itself only) to wise men, is like the sky, which is in between the

pitcher like breasts, (and) has become slim from (their) mutual

friction, (and) which is entering the cave of the navel.

78. Oh daughter of the mountain! let your navel which is a steady

whirlpool of the river Ganga, which is a basin for the part of the creeper

like line of hair with the breasts for (flower) buds, which is the hollow

for the (sacrificial) fire of the lustre of Cupid, which is the pleasure

house of Rati, which is like the opening of the cave of (sacrificial)

fulfilment to the eyes of Girisa, (and) which is indescribable, be

victorious.

Also refer to the nama in Sri Lalita Sahasranamam. "nAbhyAlavala rOmAli

lathA phala kuchadwayI"

With respect to the Mother Kicking Yama, the observation is straight

forward. In the form of ardhanArIshwara, the left side belongs to the

mother. So if Shiva kicked yama with the left leg, it belongs to the

mother isnt it. It is because of her pAtivratyam and magnanimity, she has

confered this honour too on Siva who is always inseperable from her.

niilakaNTha diixita makes a reference to this in his work

aanaandasaagarastavaH, which not only a devotional work on Sri miinaaxii,

but also a philosophical work which explains the essence of

vishishhTaadvaita.

Verse in this context is #56. It brings two episodes into question, victory

over kaama and kaala:

a) burning of manmatha, where ambaa should get half the credit, as the eye

that burned is shared by both left and right sides of the lord.

b) saving maarkaNDeya, where the leg that kicked kaala is entirely on

ambaaL's side (left side).

saadhaaraNe smarajaye nitilaakShisaadhye bhaagii shivo bhajatu naama yashaH

samagram .

vaamaa~Nghrimaatrakalite janani tvadiiye kaa vaa prasaktirapi kaalajaye

puraareH .. 56 ..

you can see the complete text at

/message/3724

This verse also gives an example of the underlying humour in shrii diixita's

works.
