Guest guest
kurukulla is the 438th naama in LS. Sri bhaaskararaaya commenting on this name, he quotes two sources: a) tantraraajatantra and b) lalitastavaratna. Following is the original text and a free translation (based on Ananthakrishna Sastry's book[1]) -- "kurukullaakhyadevii shriipure aha.nkaara chittamaya praakarayoH madhye vimarshamaya-vaapyaam-adhikR^ita" This deity kurukulla is resides between the prakaara-s of aha.nkaara and chitta, in the tank called vimarshamaya, in shriipura. [2] On this, lalitastavaratna says: "kuruvinda taraNi nilayaM kulaachalaspardhikuchanamanmadhyaaM | kumkumaviliptagaatriim kurukullaaM manasi kurmahe satataM iti | The one who resides in the ruby called kuruvinda, whose waist bends due the weight of breats, which put mountains to shame, and who is smeared with kumkuma, that kurukullaa, I meditate always in my mind" Finally, the reference in tantraraaja: tantraraaje cha dvaavimshe paTale nirupitaa tadruupa | You can find description of the form of this deity in the 22nd chapter in tantraraaja. ----- [1] http://ambaa.org/download/SriLalita1000.pdf for reference details [2] One can find additional insight into this name from other names in LS (such as vimarsharuupiiNi, which describes the concepts of prakasha and vimarsha) and also from texts such as bhAvanopanishad.
