Respected bhaktas, I have heard some teachings on this practice from various gurus. According to my teachers, when a flame is waved in a clockwise direction before a sacred representation of the Divine, the flame absorbs the positive energy emanating from the sacred image. This is due to its special qualities as the element of fire. When we bring our hands near the arati flame, we absorb the divine energy through our fingertips, which have very important nadis in them. When we bring our fingers to our eyes, we absorb even more of the energy through the eyes, which are extremely open and sensitive parts of the subtle body. In this way, we take in the auspicious energy that was generated by the puja or homa. There are some who also pass their fingers over the top of the head, because the brahmarandhra is another very important spot in the subtle body that takes in energy. So, even though there is much symbolic significance in this act that serves to inspire our minds, there is a great deal of subtle yogic science behind it as well. This is according to the teachings I have received. Guest guest
Dear devotee , namaskar. Infinite thanks for an enlightening explanation from a Yogic point of view -- indeed logical and most convincing to me , out of the various explanations i have from this group and outside as well. while this doubt, is not of mine but that of my friend's, i could'nt think of a right answer , so put forth the query before the group. This only reminds me of my Chairman's advice -- " when you don't have a better answer to a recurring corporate problem, pl pose this problem to the prospective employees during the interview and in this process many better solutions would emerge.
