However, the line under question indicates as you correctly point out in translation, that the body is an abode of the supreme. I think this aspect of supreme in the body is beautifully highlighted in naaraayaNa suuktam. That paramatma is also indweller of the body, makes it a temple and holy. Without that indwelling power, life would not be possible. Hence, I think goal of that line is not to empasize the need of the body to attain realization, but to stress the fact the body enshrines the Lord and hence it is improper to consider it as filthy. Again what is filthy and clean is also a reflection of the state of mind. My 2c. Ravi
Guest guest
OM SRI GURAVEE NAMAHA OM SRI MATREE NAMAHA Dear Friend When god created human beings Lord Bramah made it a point to put the AMSHA of god into all human beings which when devendra saw could not control. His thought was all human beings will be gods and can o any thing a deva can do. He went to vishnu and reported the matter to him.Vishnu replied that devendra should not worry about this, reason being the MAYA of devi will take care about the whole issue. The power of devas within the human body is termed as KUNDALINI.Unles the blessings of devi MAHA TRIPURASUNDARI is not there the kundalini shakti in the human body will not wake up.If any one has gone to big big temples in India they will have 9 entrances. The four gates in the outer PRAKARA, four entrances in the INNER PRAKARA, and the entrance to the santum santorum, making it 9 in total. Human body also consists of 9 entrances, thus making the body as a temple. In the SRI CAKRA as well as MERU pooja also there are 9 AVARANAS, indicating the nine entrances. This all shows that the human being is a temple whre LORD/DEVI resides. To keep it pure is our job. Even the mala, muthras, blood, semen etc etc are all part and parcel of it.SO take care of the body and make it a beautiful place where the LORD, DEI can dwell and save us from al sind and take us to moksha. yors lovingly brother Krisshnan -- "M. Guest guest
Dear Ravi, It is definitely a valid point that body itself is the abode of the Supreme and in fact thirumanthiram shows the way to realize the God Who stands wide and tall without limits, within the body itself. (Thanks for the cross ref from nArAyaNa sUktam.) Couple of things that influenced this note are 1. Shaiva Siddhanta philosophy that the body is the gift of God for the soul to utilize to relinquish its ties ith the pAcam and hold on to pati. 2. The very previous hymn to this one in thirumanthiram is "uDambAr aziyin...", which reamrks that body should be maintained in order to achieve the true wisdom. BTW, away from the topic, saw a book from thiruvAvaDuthuRai AdhInam, on the Goddess and Her various forms on the basis of the information from the various tantras. (This is part of a series in which on on Lord naTarAja & Lord subrahmaNya are also published.) I thought this may of interest to you and this group. namaH shivAya Love, Ganesh > , "M. S.
