SPIRITUAL COMMENTARY

Seeing the steady rise of unrighteousness as the demon forces amassed

themselves, You set Your invincible divine will to the task of restoring Dharma

to the world. Eager to protect Your innocent children, You rushed valiantly

towards the demons firing arrow after arrow into their midst. The arrows shot

in swift succession from Your sacred bow streamed through the air producing the

holy sound "srim". As the arrows reached their targets without fail, the

powerful sounds of "hum" and "dum" resounded throughout the world.

As You strung each arrow with grace and agility, the jewelled bangles on Your

wrists sparkled with golden-red light as they swayed steadily back and forth.

All the sages and celestial beings watching the scene were thrilled to witness

Your glory, and they sang and danced with tears in their eyes. Those deluded

demons came in with their paltry war instruments, playing strains of worldly

music. But how could they be any match for You, when every movement of Yours

created a divine symphony with sounds like "aim", "srim", hrim", and "klim".

The supreme sound of "Omkara" emanating from Your jingling anklets struck

terror into the hearts of the demons, and one by one they fell dead at Your

feet. But all the saints and sages were lost in blissful meditation on hearing

that divine sound of Omkara coming from You. Oh Mother, Your bow is comprised

of the holy Vedas, and Your arrows are the many powerful Sanskrit bijaksharas.
