OM SHREE MATRE NAMAHA

dear sri gomatisankar,

the best source is the ramakrishna math. the best treatment

is by brahmasri. "anna" subramaniam or simply "ANNA". Anna's

books are availabler for LS, trishati and related shlokas.

ramakrishna math books are available from the math's book

stalls at mylapore [r.k.math road], the central station [both

in chennai; ]; also at the r.k. math, bangalore. bombay too

may have the tamil/english versions.

OM SRI GURUVEE NAMAHA

OM SRI MATHREE NAMAHA

Dear sister,

Pranams. You have asked a beautiful question. As per

LALAITHOPAKHYANAM, as per the request of LALITHA MAHA

TRIPURASUNDARI, the Thithi Nityas made lalitha

shasranaamam. That is why Lalitha sahasranaamam is

considered as the holiest of all sahasranamams. But

the version which is now is in the form of question

and answer form between AGASTHYA and HAYAGRIVA. After

telling all what is to be told to Agasthya, Hyagriva

kept quiet and Agasthya felt that some thing is again

missing or remaining to be told. After pleeding with

Lord Hayagriva, Hayagriva narrates about the Lalitha

Sahasranaamam. The Bhasyam for Lalitha sahasranaama

was written by a great Devi Upasaka by name

BHASKARARAYA MAKHIN, whose diksha nama was

BHASURANANDA NATHA.

Yours Lovingly Brother

a) It was not the tithi nitya-s, but vashinii and other vaag-devataa-s who

composed the sacred 1000 names. This is made quite clear in the puurva

piiThika. See verses 28-31 in puurva piiThika. ambaa tells them to compose

it and reminds them of the fact that their powers are due to HER and they

should use it for the welfare of HER devotees.

b) When agasthya asked for sahasranama, he clearly knew such a work existed

and he wonders why he was not given that. See verses 8-10 in puurva

piiThika. I think you are mixiing up between sahasranaama and trishatii.

Only in the case of trishatii, he is not even aware of what he is missing,

but only has an intuitive notion that he is missing something great and

hence feels incomplete. trishati is also known as sarva puurtikari stuti.

Complete translation of trishati puurva piiThika is available on ambaa.org.
