Arunji,

In my opinion, it is better for you to continue with your family

tradition

and customs. Parad lingam and Parad Shree Chakrams are not for

householders. It is widely used by "mantriks" and "tantriks". The

disadvantage/danger of idols/symbols made of "paarad" (mercury) is

that it will be absorbing all the malefic affects of planets and

effects

of "mantra prayoga" on you by your enemies/opponents, and each time

it protects you, it shrinks in size. The day it fully

shrinks/dissolves, the

owner of the idol will also drown in life, usually causing death.

By and large, parad and rasa lingas are one and the same. Rasa sidhas

solidify mercury on an auspicious day when there is a powerful

combination of planets and stars, just with the power of mantras.

This is kaliyuga and anything can happen. Nowadays we see the Shree

Chakram being sold along side the roads, sacred mantras are loudly

played through music systems in open etc. All that is prohibited by

our

scriptures are being done without any fear or regard. So, it is wise

to

adhere to the norms and customs of our Hindu Dharma.

regards.

Arunji,

Pranams . The Advantage of worshipping the naturally existing Lingams like Bhana

lingam, sphatika lingam etc are many . There is no need to do the Avahanam, the

power of the Brahman is eternally there and brings immense peace and proserity

to the devotee worshipping daily.

As Atreyaji has mentioned the Parad lingam is used by mantriks and tantriks for

various purposes from good to bad.

This Shiva Linga is made of mercury and silver. this linga is quite a solid and

heavy one. Normally mercury neither dissolves in water nor does it stand at a

place when poured. Tantriks of high calibre with their spiritual power pour

mercury to its boiling point viz 321 degrees Centigrade and mix silver in it

when it solidifies in the form of Shiva linga and becomes a very rare tantrik

article. The linga whe exposed to sun's rays radiates all the colours.

The various details for which it is used by tantriks need not be discussed as it

would be beyond the scope of the group.

At Haridwar before 15 years, I have seen a " Parad Lingam Temple" and the size

of lingam must be 5 feet tall and three feet wide. At that time I couldnt

appreciate as it was somewhat looking abnormal in my perception due to my

limited knowledge.

I have been performing Shivabhishek in my house on a small
