Guest guest
Namaste, Some thoughts I felt like sharing with the list. Comments and similar thoughts from other list members are sought: bRhadAraNyaka upaniShad (5.14) summarizes the vidyA of gAyatrI mantra. Principal ingredients of this vidyA are: 4 padas of gAyatri, and the concept of agni. tripurA tapini upaniShad explicitly gives out the appropriate agni mantra in this context : (Rg veda 1.99) jAtavedase sunavAma .... This upaniShad completes this vidyA by adding another mantra, namely the mRtyunjaya mantra: trayambakam yajAmahe .. Further, I have read that these three mantras together are known as the 108 lettered gAyatrI mantra. Another issue that I have not yet been able to resovle satisfactorily is that of seven vyAhRtis. There is ample support to associate first four with 32 lettered gAyatri. What about the remaining three ? Is it possible that these - janaH, tapaH and satyaH, are infact associated with these other two mantras that constitute the long (108 lettered) form of gAyatrI. Specifically: janaH - jAtavedase .... and tapaH and satyaH - trayambakam yajamahe .... Regards, Shrinivas Gadkari
