Yes animals depicted in the scriptures, pictures or in the temples carry great esoteric meaning & they have not been made just like that by the great saints of ours but have very subtle truths hidden in them.Although it is another matter as billions of people around the world & hindus have failed to comprehend the meaning or even meditate/look at these symbols. They go daily to temple but never bothered to look or even question as why at first entering you strike a bell or ghanta, why most of the gods are on lotus, why we burn deepa, agarbatti, dhoop, why most of the gods have 4 hands etc etc, because they are too occupied with their own selfish material aspirations that they dont have time or inclination for higher or real religion. So inner religion is lost & outer religion prevails leading to nowhere. This has lead to some making fun of our symbols because we ourselvels are ignorant about these symbolism representing many aspects of our own nature, enviorment, mind, intellect, desires, aspirations, reality & unreality, struggles, truth & ignorance. Here i will try to answer only what has been asked by our esteemed member. If you meditate, you will find that almost every god & goddess is having the animals from the 84 lakh species manifested by god on the earth & even the astrology represents so & even the gods of planets have these animals as their veichle. Our saints when meditated in their own universe they explored that every god & goddess in the universe/energies are represented by some traits or quality or power, so they they depicted or gave that gods or goddess that symbolism or animal. If you study/meditate on Devi Bhagvat you wil find that Luxmi has the veichle of "OWLullu".Now why godess laxmi has this veichle, because if you observe in this material world, it is the maya or money is the most delusive/fooling factor which leads to atma or sadhaka or people leaving/forgetting their true nature goes after unreal/temporary. Therefore he commits foolishness & wastes his own life after wealth which is not stable or real pupose for which he(god) has given human birth, but only the means to an end i.e. reaching god & not the objective or ambition of life.He runs after money without applying or using his higher soul faculties or brain, wisdom, therefore he will continue to live in darkness like owl through repeated births & deaths & if his greed does not come under control then his astral bodies will get manifested in the body of owl who reamin in darkness & thinks that there is nothing more like money or maya or materialism. Materialsim breeds Ego, lust, destroys wisdom therfore these people are without wisdom therefore foolish & they will be deprived of the enlightnment. So if you read the laxmi stotra you will find that in the end she destroys the EGO. Therefore that man lives in darkness & believes that the world is like this & there is not other truth so owl sits on the branch upside down.He sleeps or remains in darkness in the morning when(SUN ARISES or ILLUMINES), so every human being sleeps till he makes effort to enlighten himself or herself. So every person who is asleep & live in darkness , he fails to comprehend the soul wealth or SUN & its enlightment that shines in this universe & thorugh which everything shines & comes to life. So owl(HUMAN BEING) remains under constant delusin or liiusion that there is darkness outside & inside, so these people who are highly mateialistic/money minded consider themselves successful, wise, respectful & consider spiritual people as poor, foolish, wasting their lives or fails to comprehend that why they are praying for that whom nobody has seen so he laughs on saints BUT in reality it is the other way around,it is the Saints who have the symphathy for the foolish as to when this owl(ullu) will see the truth & really smiles in the end after realizing the truth with soul enlightnment. So goddess Laxmi bless them & empower them to bless others. So millions of people around the world run after saints because goddess herself resides in them & not her veichle. She is really pleased, blesses those who overcome their materialistic tendencies. Hope this helps. Normally, we associate worldly desires [worldliness - "BhavarOgam"] and nonvirtuous behaviour ["anArya"] of humans to animals and call it as "animal instinct". The diety riding/sitting over a particular animal signifies the control of senses and mind and shunning the low instincts that the particular animal stands for. For example, 1. Lord MahaagaNapathy's vehicle "mooShika" (mouse) stands for undeveloped/narrow mind/intellect. Hence by worshipping Ganesh, one's intellect would be sharpened. 2. Lord Shiva's vehicle "nandi" (bull) signifies the wavering mind and thoughts. Hence by worshipping Shiva, the devotee becomes a yogi who has a balanced mind. 3. Mother Durga's vehicle "vyAGhra" (tiger) and "sinha" (lion) signifies "karma" ["karma PhalEShu juStAm" --- durgaa sooktham] and anger/arrogance. Hence by worshipping the Mother, we would be able to burn our karma and remain polite and humble. 4. Goddess MahaalakShmi's vehicle "gaja" (elephant) stands for greed and dissatisfaction. Hence by worshipping Mother Lakshmi, one can overcome greed, sorrow and dissatisfaction. 5. Lord SubrahmaNya's vehicle "chiki" (peacock) stands for egoism and proudness. Hence by worshipping Subrahmanya, the devotee can shed his ego and "hail-the-soul" attitude and thus becomes elgible to secure "brahma jnaana". 6. Vedamatha Gaayathri's vehicle "hansa" (swan) signifies the ability to make the distinction between the good and the bad and knowledge and ignorance. Hence the worship of Mother Gaayathri reveals to us the secret knowledge of the Vedas. Often, the Goddesses are depicted as sitting in a lotus. Here the lotus signifies the "heart lotus" which stands for "Bhakthi" - devotion and "vairaagya" - detachment. This conveys to us that by worshipping the goddesses, we gain devotion and detachment. I'am sure, the other learned members of the group can provide still better explanation. regards. mantra_tantra, "spiritual68" <spiritual68> wrote: > DEar Friends > > i would like to know what is the significance of animals that god & > goddess use? > > spirit We are Grateful & pay our Highest Gratitude to Great Rishis,Gurus, Saints ,Yogis, Authors, who have done great work to bring to us the "Light of Knowledge & Wisdom" through their works with the will of god. mantra_tantra For Suggestions,Views,Comments,Complaints contact :- mantra_tantra-owner Free Greeting Cards:- http://kaalchakra0.tripod.com Free Horoscopes, Vedic Astrology, Tarot,Tantra,Mantra,Yoga,Meditation,Hathyoga,Mahavidyas,Kriyayoga . http://kaalchakra0.tripod.com --- End forwarded message ---
