Guest guest
Dear Satishji, namaskar Your judgement that -- Devi need not be worshipped in such form -- Sheetala Devi -- if Devi worship is the objective -- seems to be of an extreme nature sounding like A death sentence -- if you permit to use this ugly word. .. Sheetala Devi is nothing but " Maha Maya" as explained in another post. DIVINE MUM is for the entire Cosmos and She Can not be the exclusive property of the Rich and famous, Vedic Scholars, Sri Vidya Upasakas or Tantries. She belongs equally to the poor, illiterates, ignorant and that class of people who do not know how to worship , what is the rule of Aradhana or Puja but moved by extreme emotions. The common thread is only the bhakhi Bhava which one has between these two classes. If you go to the villages of our Punya Bhumi one can never fail to appreciate how She is ADORED , how Virathas are done, how the annual Car festival for her is taken by the so called poor and illiterate persons. They may offer Sacrifices ( Bali), wine and anything not Sathvic. That is all they know , but these " illiterate intellectuals " know for sure and recognise Ma would come to their rescue whenever she is summoned. This Devi's viratha is done for 8 weeks on each of the weekly Friday after praying to Ma to grant a favour. Devi is invoked in a kalasa and some puja is done. it involves other procedures which i do not remember. ganapathy Satish Arigela <satisharigela wrote: , Ravi Thotapalli <rthotapalli> wrote: > does any one know anything about goddess "sheetala" ? > She is described here and there with some mantras and yantras and is mainly worshipped for getting rid of diseases or epidemics. One need not pay attention to such devatas if Devi worship is the objective. It is a different matter if academic research is the interest. There are other supreme and more pleasant forms of Devi to contemplate upon.
