Namaste,

After reading the post by Shri Ganapathi Vijaya, I

thought I will share my two cents on the subject.

As the process of preparing vibhuti will be handled by

Shri Ganapathi as per his post I am not touching the

subject.

I was in Palani a few years back and was keen to take

home some vibhuti. I was staying in one of the

purohit's house and he literally chided me for the

thought.

He took me to a place on the outskirts of Palani to a

factory which manufactures Vibhuti. I was shell

shocked!! They use chrome dust for getting that fine

colour along with wood, news papers and industrial

perfume. There was very little cowdung cakes added.

I vowed never to use vibhuti manufactured

synthetically after that. There was not an iota of

holiness in the process.

I now use yagna bhasma or the ashes from any homam or

from my aupasana. Brahmacharis can use the ashes from

their agni kaarya and all others the holy ashes from

other homas.

I also discovered that vibhuti from Srividyopasaka

Nilayam, Mylapore, Madras was very good. In fact, for

those who do not already know thats a place to buy

turmeric, kumkumam and all pooja products as you can

get pure unadulterated products. One can literally

smell the ghee in the kumkumam.

Its a small shop and has a interesting history. An old

brahmin went to Maha Periyavar of Kanchi and pored his

sorrows at his feet. He was too old to work and was

stricken by poverty.

Maha periyavar told him to start making turmeric and

kumkumam and supply it to people at a reduced cost.

The old brahmin was given srividya and he started

making kumkumam and turmeric powder which was

initially bought by the Kanchi Mutt.

He grew prosperous day by day and today that

gentleman's children look after the place. Needless to

say the Brahmin is no longer there but he died a

millionaire. While the prices have become steep they

give you a bit extra to keep up to Maha Periyavar's

wishes.

Pranam.

Last year when I voiced a similar View on the good quality of Kungumam available

at Chennai, I received few mails asking for the address of the Shop.

This shop as mentioned in the mail of Shree Ganesh Prasadji is at Mylapore about

100 meters from the temple entrance where Giri Stores is located and if one

enquires with any shop keeper around, would show the way as this Kumkum shop is

nearly 50 yrs old or more than that. Recently they have moved to the ground

floor of a new residental building on the same street.

As at Muscat you get everything possible , except for fresh flowers, I am bulk

Customer for this Sri Vidya Kungumama shop.I used to engage the founder's son in

a Chat while the packing would go on.

He used to recall some of the divine experiences of his father with Maha

Periyavaal and i used to feel thrilled that our Bharath has and had so many

great sages known and unknown. The founder's grand son who is a freshly

qualified engineer , has opted to continue the rich tradition of the family

rather than going for his engineering profession.

Dear sir

I am from Malaysia.

Recently in my town there is this boy who is about 20

years old who found to mix somethings into the vibuthi

he gives out to people. It is after applying this

vibuthi the person will listen and follow his

commands. There are two questions that I would like

to ask:

a. how are we to know if something else is mixed in

the vibuthi

b. sometimes the vibuthi is mixed with strong

perfume. Is this OK?

c. why do people do such things and with who's guide?

Thank you
