Re: Meaning & Usage of Hloum beeja

|| Jai Sadguru Dutta ||

"h" represents AkASha- brahman - sat

Sri Adi Shankara explains this in his LalithA triShati BhAShya:

" 'h' kArasya AkASha bIjasya arThA, arTha swaroop chaitanyA, AkASha

vigrahEtyarThah " ---

Hence " ham AkASha tatwAtmikAyei puShpam samarpayAmi"

Here, 'h' + 'l' + 'aum' ---->hlaum or hloum

'l' is prthvee (earth) beeja corresponding to Lord Ganapathy.

Hence 'hlaum' is the beeja mantra of mrthyunjaya-ganapathy.

The above explanation is in accordance with "Mantra Shastra".

The prayog of these type of beejas in mantras is a very secret vidya

and should not be used out of curiosity. I am just wondering how you

came across this beeja mantra and would like to know more about it.

All the best.

regards

1) If you search the archives; you will find some posts -- I remember one by

Sri Ganapathy in the recent past.

2) There are puraaNa-s which discuss about them also. For instance, there is

quite a detailed discussion on "aiM" and "kLiiM" in devii bhaagavata

puraaNa. If you look at some books on trishatii, you will find discussions

on panchadashaaxarii. It is discussed in detail in verse 32 of

saundaryalahari and another book called shakti mahimna stotram is another

storehouse of information. There is good translation of the latter in Tamil

by aNNa.

3) There was also some discussions on the list on "iiM" based on the Rk in

shriisuuktam -- taam padminiimiim sharaNamaham prapadye (padminiim iim).

4) It is better to seek guidance from a teacher before meditating on the

biijaaxara-s. But I understand that it could be quite tempting. But one can

not escape saying ambaa's compassionate she will know the true intention and

forgive. For if one believes in ambaa's compassion, then one should directly

appeal to HER compassion rather than resorting to mantra/tantra etc. without

formal guidance.

----

Ultimately, I believe that appealing to ambaa's compassion is more efficient

and direct that any of these. Even if it one-way to start with, one can

always talk to HER and tell what one wants. I try to do that. I try to tell

HER even the bad thoughts (which mostly it is) to HER. After all, SHE being

saaxi of all, will know everything anyway. Hence, admitting upfront and

seeking help is a simpler and easier alternative. And there is no point in

pleading fifth* to HER.

To me the verse of niilaakaNTha diixita "na jnaayate ..." comes to mind all

the times. To summarize it:

a) In the first place I do not what is good for me in the long run (for the

most part). (na jnaayate mama hitam)

b) Even for the one or two things I know that is good for me, I do not know

how to accomplish it. (nitaram upaayo)

c) Even for one or two of those for which I know how to do it and it is good

for me, I am in capable of doing it (samaya-aacharaNa-axamaH asmi).

d) I am utterly helpless (diinaH asmi) and I lack strength to do it. When it

comes to strength, it is not the physical strength, but the mental strengthe

that matters. If one does not have the inner strength and resolve (like me),

talking of physical capability is not so meaningful.

e) I have no refuge except you.

f) And I surrender to you and I appeal to fact that you are my mother and

will accept me and guide me back to you.

Others may not agree, personally I believe that there is NO better maarga

than sharaaNagati. It took me a long time to see the greatness of this

path. I only wish shrii raamanuja had presented it in more broader way and

if that was the case, the whole cosmos would have embraced this with

alacrity. I am an advaitin, and in ultimate sense, I do believe in

advaita-vedanta . But for practical purposes, vishishhTaadvaita and their

valuable insights into sharaNagati is the only hope of many a ignorant men

like me. And I have no doubt about that (whatsoever). In that sense, I am

greatly indebted to shrii niilakaNTha diixita for teaching this wonderful

path through his brilliant work called "aanandasaagarastava" -- with the

kind of bias I have; I would have never grasped that from any vaishhNava

works to start with.

Respected Members,

Let me post separately the totality of life under three bijas. "Aim", "Klim"

and "Sauh".

The latter is the ultimate Shakta bija. What is indeed required is proper

guidance from sadhaka's so that we are benefitted and seek the deliverance from

the "leela" of the world.

Virendra.
