Offerings to Shiva.

I found the following info. in the vAra visheSha shiva pUja section

of a certain book.

The compiler says that the following is mentioned in Karana Agama.

The following is a list of the offerings(naivedya) to Shiva that are

to be made on each week day, along with the flowers and leaves that

are to be offered. Also lists the specific avatara of Shiva for each

week day.

 

 

Sunday:

Offering:pAyasAnnaM - Rice cooked with milk etc.

Avatara:Manmadha Dahanam- Shiva reducing manmadha to ashes.

Flowers/Leaves:White Lotus/Durva

 

Monday:

Offering:dadhyAnnam - Curd Rice.

Avatara:Sarabheshvara- Shiva assuming the terrible form of a Sarabha.

Flowers:Punnaga(Calophyllum inophyllum)/Bilva leaves

 

Tuesday:

Offering:mudgAnnam-Rice cooked with milk,lentils(green gram-moong

dal),and sugar.(chekkera pongali - in telugu)

Avatara:Yamantaka- Shiva vanquishing Yama.

Flowers:Red Lotus/dhAtakI.

 

Wednesday:

Offering:Yellow rice. haridrAnnaM.

Avatara:Daksa Yajna dhvamsi- Shiva destroying Daksha Yajna.

Flowers/Leaves:Rose/Tulasi

 

Thurday:

Offering:gUDAnnaM - Rice mixed with jaggery.

Avatara:Tripurantaka- Shiva eliminating tripurasura(s).

Flowers:Champaka/dAnta leaves.

 

Friday:

Offering:shuddhAnnaM - ?

Avatara:Gajasura samhara murti- Shiva destroying gajasura.

Flowers:Jasmine/Leaves of Pomegranate tree/plant.

 

Saturday:

Offering:tilAnnam - Rice mixed with fried sesame seeds.

Avatara:Chandisha Anugraha murti- The incident of Shiva giving boons

to Chandisha.

Flowers:Blue water lily/Vishnukranta leaves.
