For those who are living in the US or other western countries, you should have access to flowers at a reasonable price. This is due to fact that flowers form the often preferred gift on romantic occasions, hence has a large market. In any case, it serves our purpose. We buy flowers here in the US as Sams club. It is quite inexpensive. You can get a 10 stem mini carnations for ~$4.00 or 25 stem large carnations for ~$7.00 and it will have approximately 25 flowers. There are ways to keep it fresh for 5+ days in a vase with flower food and you can pluck it from that and use it as if you are plucking from a plant. Besides, depending on the weather you can grow some flowers too. While driving by, I have seen a lot of mandAram, araLi, etc. In texas weather permits to grow flowers and plants like tulasi for 9 months of the year. Other option is to use gold flowers, you can probably get 108 small gold flowers for 1000 Rs or so. And these can be reused. Some use gold/silver coins while doing ashhTottara puuja. But the best option is the one recommended in shivAnandalaharI: gabhiire kaasaare vishati vijane ghoravipine vishaale shaile cha bhramati kusumaarthaM jaDamatiH | samarpyaikaM chetaH sarasijamumaanaatha bhavate sukhenaavasthaatuM jana iha na jaanaati kimaho || 9|| http://www.advaita-vedanta.org/archives/public/advaita-l/1999-December/01179 0.html
