Guest guest
Namaste, Handspun Yajnopavitas are rare in Tamilnadu. There are few traditionalists sticking on to it. In Karnataka there are few brahmins in Gokarna and Hospet who still make them for a living. I would be happy to provide them to those who are really particular on that. I know for a fact that making a yajnopavita is pretty easy and all one requires is a small spindle available at Khadi Gramodyog shops and some good quality cotton. Most older generation pundits will know to make a yajnopavitam, If you were to ask me whetehr I know, No I dont. Coming to the most important part of this discussion, there is no mention of Yajnopavita as three threads in Apastamba. It is by achara alone that Yajnopavita is being used. There is a mantra in Taitareya Aranyaka: Yajnopavit upavitya.. Sayana's commentary on this is worth reading. For ease of convenience, I shall mention it briefly. A person should wear his upper cloth like a yajnopavita in all karmas, besides a yajnopavita. For this purpose, traditional shroutins in India tie a knot at the end of their angavastrams. Yajurvedis, especially Apastambins should wear both the yajnopavita and the vastra together and should change the vastra along with yajnopavita while assuming prachinaviti and niviti positions during pitru and rishi karma. This is the correct method for yajurvedis. In case of other vedic shakhas this is not mandatory. GP --- "R.
