However, sixty-four Upacharas are prescribed during the Navavarana Pooja of Sri Lalita Mahatripurasundari Rajarajeshwari Paraabhattaarikaa in the Srichakra. These sixty-four Upacharas are detailed in Vamakeshwara Tantra and in the Parashurama Kalpasutras. COMMENTS : After expressing my profound respects to the writer of this mail, May I add my observations. Upacharas are not resticted to only 64 but can extend to 72. There are 8 more upacharas prescribed in other Sri Vidya scriptures which increases the upachara to 72 from 64. In Bhaskararaya's " Varivashya Rahasyam" these additional 8 upacharas are explained clearly. Some of these are : Sadhak Wearing the flowers offered to Ambaji, offering prostrations to guru, to do a puja to Mantra Sashtra granthas, to consume the water of Padya jala offered to ambaaji etc. Source -- QUOTE : Page 230 : LS Bhasyam of Dr. Pujya Sri GODA VENKATEASHWARA SASTRIGAL who is considered as an authority in Sri Vidya Scriptures and Vedanta and a recipient of several titles conferred by both HOLINESSes of Sringeri and Sri Mutt. This Bhasyam was widely appreciated by our group members for its Comprhensiveness sometime back. Observation by the writer : Though it is not possible to physically offer all these sixty-four Upacharas to Sridevi, by mentioning these Upacharas and offering the same at the lotus feet of Sridevi using one’s imagination, the merit of actually offering these Upacharas to Sridevi are obtained. Comments : Quote : Page 229 of this LS Bhashyam talks -- Where a Sadhak offers these Upacharas Physically it is very special to Devi earning additional merits and if one can't manage that , akshada and flowers can be substituted with. Unquote : I would like to share my personal experience in this regard with the members on the procurement of these Physical items of Upachara. Before a decade back somehow by devi's grace, I was bent upon making these upachara items Physically. I used to hunt for these items in many shops at many places. I was succeesful as I slowly gathered them one by one and after two years of search from Trivandrum, Bangalore, chennai, Calcutta , Mumbai to Dubai the mission fulfilled. Some of these items were available readily in brass or sliver or gold and some had to be ordered . What are those Physical items ? -- Given to Devi during Sri Vidya Navavarana Puja and what about their availibilty. Suganthi Thaila Abhyangam. The Karnataka Govt sells concentrated Sandal perfume without any additives and chemicals -- costs Rs 400 for a small bottle and would last for 50 pujas. Dowtha Vastra Parimarjanam. A towel can be made out of a SILK cloth and SriChakra / Devi wiped after Bath to Devi. Divya Snaneya udvardhanam This is a perfumed powder made from turmeric and is available in Giri Stores. Aruna Dhukula Paridhanam A red Garment made of silk -- One can make this out of Red Silk fabric - otherwise this is readily available in Mumbai abd chennai. Aruna Kuchotriyam. Red silk blouse -- Can be made at home Chandana Agaru kumkuma mrugamatha karpura kasturi Gorochanadhi Divya Ghandham. With Sandal paste most of the other items available in any Ayurvedic Shops should be mixed and offered. Kesha bharasya kaala agaru dhupam. Good Frankincense powder is available in India. Sultanate of Oman has THE BEST Frankincense in the world. pl light this and show it to the hairs behind the head of Devi after the bath. Mallika malathi Jathi Champka Ashoka sathapatra puga kuhali punnaga Kalhara etc -- Offering garlands out of these flowers. Garlands made out of these Flowers. Jasmine is mallika - Champaka is Sampangi are commonly available but not in this part of the world. The following Ornaments ( MINIATURE ) can be made in gold or silver and plated with gold.- Some are readily available in GIRI STORES or SUKRA Jwellery Chennai made of Silver or brass. For items to be made , it is better one approaches a gold or silversmith with a Picture of Rajarajeshwari ,as this would give him a good idea. Miniature items : Crown with precious stones, ( at least plain), an ornament like the third phase of moon, a round dot as thilka ratnam, ornaments for both ears and nose, small medallion and big Medallion , mangalya sutra, necklace made out of pearls, ekavali -- necklace from 27 pearls, gold necklace, channaveeram -- an ornament like the sacred thread worn on both the sides, Set of Bangles,Rings, Kaanchidhamam an ornament for the waist of Devi, kati suthram -- a small rope chain for the waist, an oranament resembling the leaf of ashoka tree, padakatakam, ratna nupuram, pasham, angusham, pushpa bhanam, pundrekshu chapam, padukas, chatram, chamaram,Dharpanam or mirror, Fan etc ( explaining the description of each ornament has been avoided for brevity sake ) there are other upacharas like sindoor, Kajal ( kalanjanam), sandal paste, dhupam , deepam, karpuraveetika (betel leaves with spices ) and minor items which can be managed. Hot water bath is also an upachara -- a Uddarni full of water can be boiled with the help of lamp lit and poured in upachara patram.Care should be taken to see that it is not too hot. In this way one can physically manage atleast 98 % of upacharas to devi and get Her Bliss. But one can also comment the other way -- whether is it necessary to RUN AROUND for these items, when with Bhakthi all these can be given by way of flowers alone. Very True -- This Navavarana puja is done by YOGIES as a Manasa Puja without any materials including Maha Meru. It all depends on one's state of Bhakthi and in this respect , Well I feel it is below par for me. Therefore Physical items becomes a necessity. ganapathy Ganapathy --- Vijaya " Jai Bhavani "
