Guest guest
Pranams Nair ji, Thanks for your post. I am hearing for the first time a Female Saint belonging to this order. Such saints must be really an exception with such a state of strong Mind as they belong to the other gender with bare body. After writing the mail on Lord Dattatreya, my friend happened to came to my house from Dubai. He was accompanied by his friend and while this person was discussing, he touched on Akkalkot Maharaj -- who is also Lord Dattatreya. He promised me to send a very Rare photocopy of a book on Lord Dattatreya which was printed before 80 years. I hope to receive this within few days and let me try to post few mails on lord D from this book. I had a good book on Lord D by Najan which is currently missing from my collections. Talking on this Order of saints, Reminds me of a miracle performed at salem by HH Swayamprakasha -- GuruDev of HH Shantananda of Skandashram fame. When his Gurudev ordered a cave which was a very small cell with no air movement to be closed , sealed and not to be opened for any reasons, HH the Sishya obeyed the orders faithfully with the help of few devotees. Soon this News spread like a wild fire -- as the Talk of the Town and touched the Ears of the then Collector of Salem, who ordered the Cave to be re-opened again, as he observed , it was illegal to do an Act like this. when the battalion accompanied by the collector opened the Cave they all were amazed and surprised to see None present there. Similarly HH Swayamprakasha was once invited by a Non beliver for a Bhikasha for which Meat preparations were extensively done, to poke fun of him. When HH reached the entrance of the house, he smiled at the Host and uttered that the same preparations would Take care of him and moved away. The host after feasting, had an uncontrollable dysentry with blood and passed away the same night. Such is our Punya Bhumi, where every dust of earth becomes Holy, due to the barren feet of Such great Saints of Bharath. Your mention of Lord Sri Dattatreya and other avadhutAs prompts me to narrate this incident which occurred during my recent visit to Kanyakumari. After having darshan of our Kumari and marvelling at the glittering stud on her nose at Kanyakumari temple, I sauntered over to a ramshackle KAli temple at almost land's end from where Malayalam kIrtans of Chottanikkara dEvi were emanating. An old Malayali priest worshipping a fierce idol of KAli MA greeted me. When I rose after prostrating before the idol and took prasad, my eyes fell on the photograph of an old woman on the wall and enquired with the priest who it was. He said she was a still-living avadhUti, about 235 years old, with whom he had spent about thirtyfive years. She is fondly called Mayamma. He gave me a photograph of the lady after performing pUja, which showed her almost naked surrounded by several dogs. I asked him where I could meet her. He said he didn't know her present whereabouts but I could make her out anywhere as she is always surrounded by a herd of dogs. I am now told that Lord Sri Dattatreya is also accompanied by dogs and that they are the vEdAs. Do you know anything about this avadhUti? Do the stories you have referred to mention this avadhUti mA? Is it true that the dogs represent vEdAs? Any information in this regard, I am sure, will be of utmost interest to most of us PraNAms.
