Krishna and Lalita

Dear devotees:

I read with great interest the article on Gopalasundari written by

Shri Aravind Krishna. Interestingly, I just met a person who

mentioned that Lord Krishna himself is a combination of Lalita and

Vishnu (as opposed to being just an avatar of Vishnu only). He cited

that Krishna's playfulness and cheerfulness (regardless of the

situation)is the essence of Lalita and that these traits (like Her

Maya) obscured His true essence to all but less than a handful of

people that knew Him.

I would like to know from our learned group their views on this

matter.

I remember reading somewhere that Radha is Shiva and Krishna is

Parvati and also that Sita is Shiva and Rama is Shakti.

While Devi is shown as left half of Shiva as Ardhanarishvara, Vishnu

is also shown as left half of Shiva in Shiva's Haryarda-murti form.

I was told that Padma Purana has verses which say that Krishna is

Lalita. This is also mentioned in Tantra-Raja Tantra in 34th patala.

>From Avalon's English introduction of the above text:

------------------------

"..Lalita assumed a male form as Krishna and by enveloping all

women, enchanted the whole world. Krishna was surrounded by His

Shaktis(i.e Shaktis of Lalita). He assumed six different forms.

The names of the six forms are Siddhagopala, Kamaraja Gopala,

Manmatha Gopala, Kandarpa Gopala, Makaraketana Gopala, and Manobhava

Gopala. The last five, namely, Kamaraja, Manmatha, Kandarpa,

Makaraketana, Manobhava were it is stated in chapter VII, vv. 28-33

created by the Devi, Lalita. They are Her five arrows of desire

representing Her five senses of knowledge."
