Guest guest
Can someone point me to ancient works such as, sangam literature in Tamil, which has references on SrI mahAmArI? Based on my understanding from durga saptashatI is She is same as SrI durgA. I have quoted the verses below -- in this context mahAmArI means "great destroyer" and specifically at the time of praLaya. vyAptaM tayaitatsakalaM brahmANDaM manujeshvara | mahAdevyA mahAkAlii mahAmArIsvarUpayA || 38|| saiva kAle mahAmArI saiva sR^iShTirbhavatyajA | sthitiM karoti bhUtAnAM saiva kAle sanAtanI || 39|* I will appreciate more references pointing to Her in old Tamil and Sanskrit literature. I do remember kAnchi mahAperiyavar pointing out that some of the grAma devata-s are indeed vedic devata-s with names tamilized - such as -- kAttAyI = katyAyanI, pechchAyI = sarasvatI (pechchu + Ayi -- literally mother of speech), magamAyI = mAhA mAyA, etc. However, many of the other grAma devata-s are mostly worship of ancestors -- is this correct to say? Thanks for your help. Ravi * quoted from Sanskrit site. They also have a translation from the book published by RK Math.
