nyasa and mantra relationship

I have the following question regarding the relationship between nyasa (anga,

kara etc.) and the mantra of the upasana devta/ devi:

 

is the nyasa performed for the mantra that is chanted?

 

For e.g. if one worships ganapati with his moola mantra should the nyasa be

performed for that mantra or can one use bija of the devi/ devta and then

declare intent to chant the moola mantra? what do the vedas/ other scriptures

prescribe in this matter.
