Namasthe,

In the DM the entire episode of Mahishasura Vadham can be interpreted

Vedantically . The Mahishasura is the EGO in us and Durga is the SELF. In DM the

Goddess Durga subdues the Mahishasura who represents a vast dense of stubborn

stupidity puffed up with insolence and Egoism.

Ego identifies itself with the body so as to lose sight of Self the Durga and

this is due to the predisposition acquired from several earlier births. The body

is the creation of the Ego and is not ordinarily perceived without the body due

to the fact that it is the “ I” thought in its subtle form and in gross aspect

it embraces the senses of the whole body. Ego can’t exist without body but self

or Durga always exists.

The body is again a mental projection and the mind is the EGO that truly arises

from the Self. Therefore the thought of the body is distracting and strays away

from the Durga or the Self. In view of this it can be said, Birth and Death

being committed to body does not affect HER -- the Self.

Self or Durga is only existing and permanent and the source of Ego. The

ignorance ( Mahisha) – when silenced by True Knowledge, the Durga the Eternal

Self is revealed in all its glory. When “I” is removed the knowledge Durga or

Self shines forth. True knowledge is different from the relative knowledge that

occurs in our mind every day and is illusory. Put differently when one tries to

find the real source of Ego, the Atman or Durga is found.

The Ego also submits only when it recognizes higher power and such recognition

is through surrender or submission to Chandi or Durga and in that respect

through the DM Parayana one can realize the Durga Consciousness in us and put an

end to the cycle of births and deaths.
