Maya -- the Great Power of delusion and How do you get over Maya

Maya or the power of delusion through which the ONE Supreme, expresses itself in

the three fold play of creation, preservation, and dissolution. This tri-chotomy

applies to the waking; dreaming and deep sleep states in individual respect and

past, present, future in Universal respect.

 

 

 

Maya is the differentiating principle which is responsible for the wide

diversity in both the Universe of matter and individual Jiva . if it not for

Maya both matter and Jiva would have no independent existence of their own.

 

 

 

In the classification according to Shaiva and Shaktha systems, Maya is the sixth

category in the course of evolution towards manifestation.

 

 

 

Due to Maya

 

 

 

All knowingness of Shiva changes to limited action of Jiva.

 

 

 

All completeness of Shiva changes into incompleteness of Jiva.

 

 

 

All doing ness of Shiva changes into limited action of Jiva.

 

 

 

The eternity of Shiva changes into limitation of Time for Jiva.

 

 

 

All pervasiveness of Shiva changes into the sense of limited space for Jiva.

Maya has two parts Para and Apara. Para is supporting essence and apara is the

eight fold elements comprising of the five elements, ego, mind and intelligence

of the jiva.

 

 

 

Maya has no independent existence. Maha Maya the Amba Om having brought out the

illusion of the world as real, She continues to play upon the ignorance of the

victims. When the reality of Her not being, is finally Found, she disappears.

Shiva is Unmanifest where as Shakthi is manifest on account Her independent Will

Swatantra. Her Will is only an attribute of the Supreme Amba Om.

 

 

 

The power of Maya causes attachment to the world in the waking state because of

the Mind, which gets deluded while in deep sleep this attachment is not there

because Mind is not there in deep sleep. The knowledge that the Mind is divorced

from Reality is Maya. The knowledge is the Realization or elimination of Maya.

 

 

 

One of the holiest Sri Vidya scripture Devi Mahatmyam proclaims ;

 

 

 

“ SHE draws by force the Minds of even those endowed with Knowledge and makes

them over delusion.”

 

 

 

When this is so Where do we as ordinary mortals stand ? What Should We Do ?

 

 

 

Can we talk of Advaitha ?

 

 

 

It is waste of time discussing the doctrine of Advaita as it is enunciated from

a plane which ordinary souls can’t aspire to for many more births to come.

Therefore we have absolutely no right to approach it, much less sit on judgment

over it. It is impossible to convey a correct idea of What Advaita is, for it is

neither a matter nor it is a mental concept but a pure experience which

transcends all these. Advaita is beyond Mind and senses ( the entire Para is

So how do we get over Maya or the great delusion? Or put it differently how do

you eliminate the Mind, which is the cause of delusion.

 

 

 

The answer can be found – if we are able to use the Mind as a tool to get rid of

Mind itself.

 

 

 

When there is Mind , Upasana and Dhyana are possible which helps in getting rid

of Mind and Upasana and dhyana later cease on cessation of Mind.

 

 

 

Amba Om is gracious and she grants the best of the boons to her devotees and

shows them the true path of liberation by making the devotee as a first step --

Wish in all earnestness for a GURU and when the guru arrives, She gives the

implicit faith to the devotee, in the words of his guru – who directs the seeker

to a particular Upasana and Dhyana as per the Shastras prescribe and direct the

Jiva to a particular course of action.

 

 

 

We all carry with us the Samskaras ( latent tendencies of Mind ) which are to be

destroyed . If samskaras are not destroyed there will always be doubt and

confusion. To cut its Roots the Guru prescribes the practices and the Guru (who

is Amba in human form ) leaves it to the seeker to do this much so that he might

himself find out there is No Ignorance. This Upasana may last several births and

as one advances seeking the Truth he would realize that Ignorance never arose,

as there is only VIDYA or Knowledge.
