Guest guest
Hi, At the recently concluded Maha Shivarathri celebrations at our temple here at Bothell, WA, USA, Mahanyasa and Laghunyasa parayana was held. I could not find the shlokas anywhere on the Internet. Could anyone guide me as to where I may obtain the same? Thanks! Priya
Guest guest
|| Jai Sadguru Dutta || Hari Om. Priyaji, Both the Mahanyasa and Laghunyasa are very large collection of mantras. Please purcahse the book titled "saswara Mahanyasa mantrah" published by Sri Ramakrshna Mission, in various vernacular languages. There are two versions of the Mahanyasa: "Ravanokta" - given to the mankind by Ravana (of the Ramayana epic) and "BauDhayana" given by the sage Baudhayana. The former is more popular and tantric in nature. I strongly advice you to purchase the Mahanyasa audio cassette rendered by Sri Srinivasa Ghanapthigal and one more vidwan, produced in Tamil Nadu. I shall provide you with the exact details in my next posting. This form of the Mahanyasa is similar to that used by the Baudhayanas but it use the Katha shatarudriya which is somewhat different from the Taittiriya Shatarudriya. Of course the Laugakshi school associated with the Katha tradition appears to have affected the Baudhayana school of the Taittiriyas- I noticed at our local temple that the Taittiriyas used a mantra series beginning with HRdayam mayi/Aham AmRte... I am told that this was originally found in the Brahmana of the Kathas that was equivalent to the Tait.Brah. (LAter acquired by the Taittiriyas). The Taittiriyas also originally did not have a Shivasankalpam astu recitation in their Samhita. This also appears to have come from either the Katha tradition or perhaps from the Shukla Yajurvedins, in whose texts it is also found. The Raudrenanikena section is also different in the Katha version of the MN. RR
