Mother lalitha,

 

I beg you to pass a ray of kindness on me.

Please tell me more about why Lord Hayagriva came? What he did before

teaching about you to Sage Agastya?

Why he took the name (form too?) of the very demon that he killed?

Why I have not heard any name suggesting Lord Vishnu as the killer of

demon Hayagriva in his Sahasranama?

Please show me some light on to where I can get this information.

 

I like to know about the Sage who gave Your sahasranama, trishati and

all other vidya to Agastya in person.Also he is the guru who

symbolically and in guru parampara to every seeker on this earth for

the generations and generations together.

To kill the demon hayagrIva and to teach sage Agastya

brahmANDa purANa mentions that Sage hayagrIva manifested from an

amsha

of Lord hayagrIva - viShNu.

> Why he took the name (form too?) of the very demon that he killed?

 

That is because the demon hayagrIva had a boon from devI that he can

be killed only by someone who of his form, i.e a human form with

horse

head.

Some give esoteric explanations for this episode. I dont remember

anything of it now but can be found in a Telugu book titled "Devi

Bhagavatha rahasya artham" or something like that.

 

Story can be found in 5 th chapter of 1st skanda of devI bhAgavata.

dakShiNAmUrti-shiva, hayagrIva-viShNu, Ananda bhairava-shiva and

dattAtreya are considered the greatest teachers of shrIvidya.
