Guest guest
Dear Sri Prasada Reddy: This list has discussed many subjects in the last 5 years. And we are trying to see whether we can have a focused discussion on a subject. For the coming year, lalitA sahasranAma is suggested. We will consider focused study of all important works one by one. Why sahasranAma now , why not triSatI. Well, we have to start somewhere. Coming back to triSatI, I have taken my time to post around 170 names with detailed meanings (in advaita-l, which was reposted here), my translation of pUrva pIThikA, a audio recording of that, and also working on the uttara pIThikA & typing in the original commentary with a translation . I fully well understand its value and significance. Despite your interest, I have not see much of your contributions on that subject or for that matter any subject. Many members have voted for amendments, and I assured them that we will consider it. But clearly, the focus is going to be on sahasranAma, with reasonable amendments to accommodate other posts (such that they don't derail the main focus). If you are suggesting, that we should not have a focused group effort. I have to answer in negative. We are going to have it. Even though only 19 out 600 have cast their preference, I see a clear support from *regular contributors* to this list. Hope this answers your question, if not kindly contact me by personal e-mail. Thanks. Guest guest
Namaste, I just wanted to add my two cents along by quoting a story recorded in the books of Sringeri. Sri Chandrasekhara Bharati Swamigal of Sringeri was a well known sanyasi and srividyopasaka. Almost towards his end he used to be aloof and had all the lakshanas of a jivanmukta. He had stopped performing pooja and was engrossed in parabrahma most of the times. One day he wanted to perform puja and was engrossed in Navavarna puja when a scholar (I dont want to take his name, but he was a lawyer who became a sanyasi later)who had learnt vedanta from Sri Chandra Sekhara Bharati swamigal came to see him. He waited hoping that the navavarna puja would be over and he could engage in a few meaningful dialogues with him on vedanta and also clarify a few doubts from his advanced private studies. Swamigal showed no sign of stopping, but went on to repeat the sahasranama archana all over again. The scholar was pretty upset by now of this long wait and thought to himself "Why this mundane worship to an innanimate object (Srichakra), when one could contemplate on the brahma sutras and its deeper meanings which lead to jnana" Sri Chandra Sekhara Bharati Swamigal completed his navavrana puja almost in hurry and went for his biksha. The time was almost 4 in the afternoon. While going, he stopped for a second near the scholar and told him abruptly "The lalita sahasranama describes the essence of the entire vedanta in 1000 words, what could be better than that?" The scholar was dumbfounded as to how swamigal knew what he was thinking and also found a new dimension to his studies. The above story is to illustrate that even if the list adopts only Lalita sshahsranama for discussion, the scope involved would far surpass all discussions which may happen suo motto as it covers all aspects of the shastras. Kundalini yoga, mantrashastra, prayoga and vedanta are almost exhaustively covered in the bhashyas of Lalita Sahasranama, which has by far been about the discussions we have had in the list today. Our studies and efforts to understand shakta literature will be more focussed if we do it through Lalita Sahasranama.
