Satish ji , You have Correctly advised the devotee. As per Uttara Bhaga or Phala

sruthi which is also known as Kshama Kala clearly declares that LS has to be

Chanted after a VidyAAm, ( Mantra Japa ) of atleast 100 or 300 or 1000 times.

When such number is involved , our sastras say to add eight to these numbers

making it 108 0r 308 or 1008.

 

VidyAAm implies either Panchadhasi or Shodasi Mantra of Sri Vidya.

 

When one is not initiated the better option of chanting LS is through a

qualified initiated person which has also been provided in this uttara bhaga.

However for a qualified Sadhak this can be followed, only when he is ill or for

other genuine problems due to which he is not able to chant LS.

 

The benefit of Chanting LS once, is equivalent to more than a Koti or crore

times of all the cumulative punyas, one would have otherwise earnt by doing Acts

as specified below . ( as per the Uttara Bhaga )

 

" The punya earnt for having taken bath in all holy rivers like the Ganges in

Koti Janmas , punyas accruing for having installed Koti lingas in Kashi

Kshetra, punyas accruing for having given in charities koti param ( weight ) of

gold to Vedic Brahmins during Solar eclipse at Kurukshetra, punyas accruing as a

result of performing koti ashwamedha yagna, punyas accruing for having dug koti

wells in a desert or barren land, punyas accruing as a result of feeding koti

brahmins during a famine for hundreds of thousand years. "

 

For Ambaa devotees who are very keen on getting initiated, it is better to pray

sincerely to Ambaa Ji to reveal a Guru and one can be sure that it is SHE who

manifests as a Guru. The entire Upasana is nothing but waiting patiently for HER

GRACE for unfolding HER CONSCIOUSNESS.

LS stotram can be recited *only* by those who are initiated into

specific mantras. That is what LS says about itself.

Statements of some people who are considered saints by their

followers(whatever their number might be) which run contrary to the

words of hayagrIva bhagavAn.h and devI should be discarded for one's

own good.

 

It is better to do japa of the mantra that one received(like in your

case) from their teacher rather than do something prohibited.
