LS 755 – “ ChandikA“

Chandika means ANGER. She is angry with the jivas who do not show bhakthi to Her

and act Non dharmically. Chanda means anger and Chandi is a derivation. Chanda

is also an asura of DM who went against the Shastra maryadha.

Therefore all our Dharma shastras and injunctions are very sacred to every

Hindu. And respect for it is through observance.

Anger or rage is also one of the Lakshanas of Brahman. Therefore Chandi devi

is the Very Brahman. ( As per Bhashyam of Pujya Bhaskara Raya – for this

reference is made to Sri Rudram in the anuvaka Namasthe Rudra Manyavey )

A girl of seven years is called Chandika in Devi Bhagavatha and Kumari Puja is

done invoking her during Chandi Homa. This connotes that Mother is guileless,

pure and power preservative.

In Maha Shodasa Nyasa Chandika is known as Kala Rupa.

The Cumulative energy of Maha Kali, Maha Laxmi, Maha Saraswathy is Chandika Devi

as per DM. When ever the adharama manifests and dharma is at Stake – Amba

Manifests herself.

dear ganapathyji

many pranams

your explanation for the nAmA "chandikA" makes me think again and again on that.

i have few doubts. if my thinking is not correct kindly correct me.

1. you have said "She is angry with the jivas who do not show bhakthi to Her".

is she really bothers about our bhakthi when she is avyAja karunA mUrthi? when

we worship her or not, she cares for us. is it not?

2. anger is also one of the lakshanas of brahman. ok. but is it useful when

she gets angry on us, when she can do anything even without anger? tiruvalluvar

says "sellidattukkAkkil sinam kAkka" (obstain from your angry on your fellows

where you can show your angry - rough translation). i fell, please correct me

if i am wrong, here anger means, she "freightens us" . anger is a feeling. but

here, it is a show. when we are doing non-dharmic acts, she freightens us and

makes us not doing the same. hence can i derive from your explanation that the

nAmA means " one who is freightening us" and not one who is with anger?

3. here this anger is also beautiful. is it not? when we see pratyangarA dEvi

or vakrakAli at tiruvakkarai or when we see vayal nAchi amman (bruhan nAyagi) at

vElangudi (near karaikudi, sivagangai dist, tamilnadu - who is the deity for 7

villages), we not only see her anger but also the beauty of that (ofcourse when

we are not at fault).

with expectations to read more about mA from you and with many pranams
