Guest guest
Dear Prasada: When posting in languages other Sanskrit, we request that a translation in English be included. That way more members can enjoy what is being posted. Sanskrit is as exception, as in , we deem that as an Universal language for indian religious tradition (ironically, which most of us do not know :-(( ) Since my mother tongue is not telugu, the word mAyammA (mA + ammA = my mother = mama jananI) always stirs in my mind the Ahiri raga kR^iti "mAyammA ani ne pilachitE nAtO mATLADarAdA?" (when I seek you calling out "my mother", why are not talking [replying] to me). In a sense, this song (of late) reminds me that I I have lost the important quality of emotion due to too much reasoning and logic. Ideally, this song should move one to tears and rAga itself is a crying rAga. Yet, as Sridhar rightly pointed out to me, there is hardly a singer who moves you with that emotion while rendering this song. Sometimes I wonder, whether the singer or the listener or both , who should be blamed. Probably we do not heart of heart (even though the tongue talks about it) realize the subsequent line "ninu vinA vERE dikkayevarunnArammA" (other than you who is there for me as refuge). She is one jananI who can put an end to further janana and maraNa. O jananI, janana maraNa bhaya nivAriNi, abhaya vara pradAyinI, mama hR^idyAkAsha vAsinI, ati sUxma rUpiNI, namaste namaste! Thank you.
