Sorry if any recent posts of mine were hurtful. The

intention was only to stress the importance of sticking to tradition

and texts and the importance of a traditional teacher. Hopefuly they

are not taken personally.

That aside, coming to the subject:

The following description of Rudra can be found in the skanda bhAShya

for rudraM.

The work is known to be part of the shiva rahasya and was published

once by Brahma Shri K.P Narayana Shastri Swamin, a renowned shrIvidya

upAsaka who lived in vAraNAsi.

The work is basically a commentary on the rudraM, narrated by none

else than the brahmaNya devata-skanda/subrahmaNya/senAni Himself.

It has many dhyAna-s of rudra/shiva for each anuvAka and He is to be

meditated as such for certain benefits.

Here are two examples.

The bhAShya can be studied and enjoyed by all.

skanda uvAcha: The divine general, skanda/subrahmaNya says,

"He protects the world occupying a bright golden chariot surrounded by

tens of thousands of big fast-moving chariots in the midst of huge

elephants surrounded by tall galloping horses. Those who worship Him

seated on a throne set with rubies and surrounded by eminent heroes

like Brahman, Indra and other dependants, realise the fruits such as

the status of Brahman and Indra, the attainment of total liberation,

self control and the four kinds of mokSha-"

At another place His dhyAna is given as below,

"One should always meditate on Lord purAri(destroyer of the cities)

who,

*shining in divine battle dress*(samgrAmochita-divya-veShamanishaM),

occupies the chariot, and *armed with bow of mountain(meru)* harasses

the three cities just with a laughter. rudra, worshipped in this form

by sages gautama and gomayu is the reliever of all woes such as

accidental and untimely death and natural calamities.... He should be

realised as identical with paramAtman and not as different from Him."

About this bhAShya: skanda/subrahmaNya is said to have taught this to

jaigishavya and other sages. He inturn composed the bhAShya based on

what He heard when shiva explained this to pArvati.

English translation by T.K Ramachandra Aiyar.

Namaste,

The skanda that this work refers to, is the same as the son of rudra

i.e subrahmaNya.

He is also known to be the revealer of many shaiva(siddhAnta shaivam

and others like siddhayogeshvari mata etc) texts. Some as a dialogue

between Himself and agastya.

Regards
