Dear Friends

when one starts a pooja a Sankalpa should be done stating the place

time year ,star . etc. For a person living in USA say Toledo,Ohio how

the place can be mentioned..As far as I know N.america is called as

krounchya dweepa..is it right?

If not then

which Dweepa?

which varsha?

which khanda?

How about the indication of directions with respect to Meru

can any one please enlighten me?

Thank you so much

It will not be correct even then because you are assuming an Indian

location for your spatial coordinates and American location for

temporal (time) coordinate. Otherwise you will end doing

prAtas-sandhyA in sAyaN^kAlam and the vice versa.

Easiest way to substitute is to say puNya kShetre, puNya varShe, etc.

This is similar to people substituting "Subha" for unknown entity in

time (such as Subha karaNa). Here for the space you say puNya. Saying

krau~ncha etc. is not correct because the cosmology as understood by

seers is not same as what we understand now. bhUmA devi is sacred

wherever you are and saying a particular place is a puNya bhUmi is not

incorrect.. Regarding rivers, Colarado river is as sacred ganga and

kAveri, so are other rivers. Water is sacred, period; and veda-s stand

testimony to this. If you further want refine your sankalpa with term

such as, texas rAjye, Austin nagare, etc., it is OK.

The key is saying this space time coordinates in sankalpa is to learn

our tradition. As far as geography is concerned, I think it may be

difficult to grasp it and/or accept it (there are some websites that

present a picture of what our seers thought). One can at least learn

to compute panchAnga (based on lat/long) and say that correctly. But

you should also keep in mind that She transcends space and time.
