Guest guest
sriparasukhanandanadha Sub: Meruruttaratahsthitah In Hindu sampradaya, we consider the top part of any thing as the east, bottom part as the west, right side as daxina(north) and the left side of the thing as north. How is it possible to compare it with a lemon? mEroh uttaratah means as next to the mEru but not at the the top of mEru. mEror daxinatah can not imply the meaning as to the bottom side. mEru is not at all a mountain. If it is so, it should be visible to us when the Sun goes behind of it while he is rotating around it as pradaxina and then the Sun should have been invisible all the time when he goes behind it. Meru is the centre of gravity for all the unverse, which is not visible to any one. The invisible strait line from the brahmarandhra to mUlAdhAra is also considered as the Meru. It situates just in front of our spinal cord. The right side of it is the better part which we acquire from our guru, and rishis by their kindness (dAxinyena). Please excuse me if I have exeeded the limits. sriparasukhanadanadha On Wed, 21 Sep 2005 wrote : > > >Message: 2 > Tue, 20 Sep 2005 09:00:23 -0500 > Ravisankar Mayavaram <abhayambika >Re: Sankalpa for Pooja > >On 9/20/05, Gopi <antarurjas wrote: > > Dear all > > > > When we say "meroh dakshiNey parsvay", are we > > mentioning the spatial or the temporal coordinates? > > > > what is considered as Meru here? Guest guest
Sriparasukhanandanadha Sub:- mEroruttarabhage Priya bandhujanAh, According to BhAratIya (Hindu) tradition, it is considered that the top portion of any thing is east and the bottom portion as the west. The right (daxina) portion is considered as the south and the left portion as the north. The top point upon the lemon fruit is not the proper example in this connection The geography of our tradition is entirely different from the western view of graphical notations. If the western concept reads the earth in Longitudinal terms, the hindu purAnAs read it in the latitudinal measurements. We can’t equalize these both and decide the facts on par. “sarvalOka dHarAkrAntO lOkAlOkAKhya parvatah | tatahparantu tanmadHyE chakravALa prakAsate || chalAchalAdri stasmAddhi param parama BhAswarah | tatOnantaradESEtu Suddha Suddha jalArnavah || jalArnavAvyavahitam puShkara dwiipamuttamam | puShkarAnantara sTAnE vartathE kShiirasAgarah || tasmAtparam mahABhAga dwiipam Salmali sam.jyakam | dadHyarnavastu tatpaSchAcCaka dwiipam tatahparam || tata AjyArNavO jnyEyO yadante krowncha samsthitah | krownch dwiipAnantarEtu surAyAh sAgarastatah || kuSa dwiipantu vignEyam tatpaScAdikshu sAgarah | paschAttasyatubHAgEvai plakSha dwiipam virAjatE || Evam dwiipa samudraistu SOBhitEyam mahAmunE | pancASatkOti vistIrNA vartatE kUrmaprishThavat || laXa yOjana mAtrENa jamboo dwiipamtuganyate| taDhA dwigunavriDhyAtu gananE kumBha samBhavE || dwiipAbDhi sama samKyAkai_ryOjanai_statra lakshyate | tatra panchOttarAvimSatkOtayastu ku_BhAgagAh || Sishta ssarvE tamObhUmyam nirnItavai samAsatah ||” This is the description of this universe mentioned in bramAnda purAna. Exactly in the center of this whole Universe, the mEru (mountain?) is said to be situated. It is also said that the Sun is rotating around it like pradakshina every day (every year?). One question arises here. If the Sun is really rotating around the mEru mountain, it should have been visible to the naked eye when the Sun goes behind of the mountain and the Sun should have been invisible all the time when he is journeying in the back part of the mountain. But it is not so. So, now it is evident the the mEru is not a material substance but it is only a symbolic word used for the center of gravity which is also not visible but existing as the power of holding any article to stand itself erect. Without the mEru, the thing will fall down. If we draw a strait line from the center of the brahmaranDhra to the center of the mUladhAra padma, that becomes the center of gravity for us which is keeping us to stand erect. This line which was drawn just in front of our spinal column is also called the mEru. This mEru is actually the cener of the whole universe. “miOti kshipati SiKharair jyOtiimshiiti mEruh” It is holding all the celestials upon its crests. i e., it is the power behind, which is holding the universe in the right position. Basing on all these points, we can easily come to the conclusion that the mEru is nothing but the inner self of the individual human being. “sarveshAmapi varshAnAm mEruruttaratahsthitah” means, “to the left side of our body” We call the left side of the body as “vAma”. That means the worldly pleasures. The right side of the body is called “daxina” meaning mercy of the guru or the learned seers and rishis. When we express our sankalpa to perform any auspicious karma, we must first of all come out of all the worldly pleasures And say “mama upAtta durita kshaya dwAra”. Unless you cleanse yourself of all the sins at least for the time being, you are not entitled to pray god. So we go to the daxina or mercy of our guru or the scriptures of the Rishis on the right side of the body (mEru) and start the sankalpa to perform the karma.. In my opinion, for persons who reside in foreign countries, it is all not necessary to waste your time, with the arguments and dialamas to know about the intricacies of dharma Sastras. That time can be better utilized for japa of any mantra if you are initiated. Be a roman while you are in Rome. If you are celebrating any pUjaA function, you can simply say “ SriparamEswara priityarTham ShOdasOpachAra pUjAm karishyE”. Good intention is more important for god, rather than your scriptural recitations. Before god, we must be always simple and appear to be ignorant and innocent. Please excuse me if I am wrong. sriparasukhanandanadha ================================================================== krishnarao.lanka (sriparasukhanandanadha)
