Suggestions/corrections/additions welcome from posters. Name of naivEdyams (food for the worship of god) 1. annam - refers in gen. to cooked rice/ghee Varieties: a. SharkarAnnam - rice mixed with sugar (sometimes also refers to cakrapongal made w/ mundiri paruppu & brown rice - a favorite food enjoyed by dEvi) b. kuDAnnam - ven pongal c. haridrAnnam - rice mixed with lemon juice (elumicchaipazha ShAdam) d. tintiriNi annam - puLiyodarai/puLiyOgarai d. nALikErAnnam - rice mixed w/ coconut (tEngAy ShAdam) e. tilAnnam - eL ShAdam (often offered to dEvI) f. ShakAnnam - kadambam (rice w/ mixture) g. dadhiyannam - tayirShAdam h. ShAlyAnnam - ??? 2. pAyasa - in gen. kheer made with milk sometimes kshIrapAyasam/kshIrAnnam ghRtagulapAyasam - kheer made with ghee & molasses(???) nArikElakshIra pAyasa - kheer made w/ coconut milk (I think this is done in kERaLa) 3. mOdaka - sweetened rice balls; also kozhukaTTai (a sweetmeat w/ sometimes sweet filling inside called 'pUraNam' with the outside cover made of riceflour dough and made into a shape of bells) pinDe - lump of rice/flourball usu. given during Ahuti(hOma) and pitR^i (obsequies) 4.
